My wife and I were sight seeing in the Bryson City area and as we traveled down a street in town, we saw several people sitting on benches eating ice cream and seemed to be enjoying it. We circled the block and checked it out again and they were sitting in front of an ice cream parlor. We continued on and did some sight seeing in the area and as we came back through, I suggested to my wife that we stop and take an ice cream break even in November. No bad time to eat ice cream. When you go inside, it looks like an old style ice cream parlor with lots of Coca Cola styling and décor. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly and we both got double scoop ice cream cones. There were many other ice cream choices to select from. The ice cream was Blue Bell brand and was very good. Tried to pay with a debit card and the gentleman stated they only took cash. Asked if he could break a hundred dollar bill and he said yes. Went outside to vehicle to get the cash and he already had the change ready for transaction when I came back in. Very nice demeanor and seemed easy to deal with. We went outside and sat to eat our cones and enjoy the cool mountain breeze. Enjoyed it. I recommend you stop in when in the area for an ice cream break and you won't be disappointed.

Paul does a great job mixing up a shake (lots of real ice cream) and dipping delicious Bluebell scoops (my "single" was so generous that I checked to make sure he had heard me right). We stopped in for a mid-afternoon treat, and judging from the traffic, this place is as much a hit with locals as with tourists.

My wife and I traveled to western NC this past weekend during the government shutdown. And even though activities were limited, we were able to find things to do and create our own fun. One of the high points was a trip to the classic American 1940s-50s style malt shop known as Soda Pops. From the time period décor with vintage Coke machine and a mannequin attired in period soda jerk uniform to the glassware and the best, a Sinclair gas pump with television set on the inside to the hospitable and gracious owner, Paul, Soda Pops was definitely worth the stop. The butter pecan ice cream was delish and the environment was charming both inside and out. Anyone who is in the area whether a resident or on vacation needs to stop by. Tell them Gary sent you. It's a can't miss stop in western NC/Bryson City.

We went to Soda Pops for dessert. Walking through the screen door was like walking back in time. It is a very fun experience seeing the many retro items they have on display. All of us had an ice cream cone. The ice cream was creamy and they offered limited although tasty flavours. We then ate it outside on one of the street benches and watched the sleepy world of Bryson City go by.

Very clean, cute retro ice cream shop with good treats and decent prices. My one suggestion would be to be able to pay a way other than cash only. Also, the rockers outside to sit in are a nice touch. We were served by the owner who was very friendly.
