Description: Located in a beautifully restored historic building...down a quiet alley in the heart of Downtown Brevard, The Square Root Restaurant is as well known for its architectural and artistic decor as it is for its fabulous food. Whether you're hoping to enjoy the ambiance of our indoor dining room, our locally crafted wood bar top, or the fresh breezes of our covered outdoor patio - there is room for everyone. Our atmosphere is inviting for romantic evenings, cocktails with friends, and family gatherings. We pride ourselves on serving locally roasted coffee from The Brown Bean, and we offer several local brews on tap and by the bottle. Menu choices include options to please the young and the old, the adventurous and the picky eaters, and anyone who enjoys delicious fresh food at reasonable prices. We also offer a full bar with extensive wine and cocktail choices.

We visited Brevard for several days to look at the college. We asked for some advice on dining and the Square Root was mentioned so we gave it a try. As mentioned in another review the table was horribly out of level which gave a teetter totter effect whenever anybody made a move. Our service was slow and didn't seem very well organized but the menu was interesting so we stayed. Our service remained sub par and our dinners were no different. Portions were small and over priced. Our biggest mistake was deciding to stay to listen to some local live music. The music was the high point of our night but the clientel was anything but enjoyable. Almost entirely 20 something with a roudy mix of hippies and local mountain boys. We left earlier than we would have liked because a few of the folks obviously came drunk and exhibited their obnoxious and immature sides which made us uncomfortable and seemed to create a perceivable tension in the air. Management seemed to pay no attention and made no attempt to persuade the most drunken, rude and beligerant offender that it might be time for him to leave so, instead, we all left. A few minor adjustements could have made dinner more enjoyable but it's not our idea of a pleasant place to spend a night out.

Nice little place down a alleyway in Brevard N.C. We came down from New Hampshire to visit friends in Brevard (Nice town). We asked around "where is the best place to eat dinner" well the Square Root came up a few times so we decided to try it out on our last night in Bravard. Walked in the door and was greeted right away by the owner who seated us. within a few seconds the waiter came over (Don't remember names) She was very nice and had a great smile. We ordered our drinks and she gave us a few mins. for us to look at the menu. I had such a hard time deciding and as i looked around.... it all looked good :). I ended up ordering a starter of Calamari. This was the best calamari i have EVER had anyplace, i could have ordered over again for my main meal but i ordered a steak medium well. This again was sooooo good. My wife had a pork dish that she also loved. Mine was complemented with one of there draft beers. My wife had wine. The place is very nice, kinda divided into two rooms. Very clean, Clean restroom (Biggie for me) . Our only regret is that we waited until the last night to go there. Ohhh i just had to get more of that calamari so the chef made me up a batch to take away.
In our opinion The Square Root is the best food in town and the friendliest staff. Please open oe up in New Hampshire. .

We would like to give the Square Root a very good rating, and it may be some other days, but not this visit. The atmosphere is very pleasant inside and they have an outside area as well. We visited with a car club which almost filled the place with customers. The table we were seated at rocked horribly though and we had to 'balance it out' to avoid being driven crazy. They certainly should be aware of the problem. It waa not just a little bit off. The waitress was very friendly but possibly overwhelmed by the number of customers. My sweet tea was unsweetened and a lady at our table had her well done hamburger come out still 'mooing'. She had to send it back. Just too rare. My wife and I split a portobello sandwich wrap and the flavors were excellent, however it was very soggy.Actually drenched in it's own juices, or some that the chef added. Very messy. The sweet potato fries were excellent and we really appreciated them not having a split charge. Would we come back? Tough call, probably not, not when so many others in Brevard to try out.

Food and service are just so-so. You would be better served going to one of the other high-end competing restaurants in town like Jordan Street, Marco's, Hob Nob or The Quarry
