“Outstanding little gem”
Reviewed June 19, 2011

This place really blew us away, every one of us. Everything was fantastic from the appetizers to the service! Very accommodating with adjusting the menu items for food allergies. The food was all fresh and perfectly cooked. The waitress was very pleasant too.

“Perfection from start to finish; don't miss this gem!”
Reviewed May 25, 2011

We are here for a vacation and, unable to decide where to have dinner, we saw an ad in a local magazine for Joy Bistro and a listing on Trip Advisor that made it look like our kind of place. I guess we're sort of "foodies" who look for creative cooking using fresh, seasonal ingredients. Because the road that's the most direct route to it was closed, we had to circle all the way around the block to get to it. Contrary to how it showed on Google Maps, the bistro is at the corner of a small retail strip facing King Street. I'm really glad we didn't give up, because it was more than worth it.

The place is small, with a little covered patio out front. Although this is a fine dining establishment, the atmosphere is casual. The hostess and server made us feel at home. The server noticed I was uncomfortable because the AC was too strong at our table, so she offered to turn it down just for me (I told her it was't necessary, but she insisted).

From the lovely little blossoms in vases decorating the white tablecloth-covered tables, to the boxes they packed our leftovers in, the meal and experience were flawless. The piping hot water for my tea was a good indication that they know how to do thing right (I hate tepid tea water). The bread before the meal was so good, with a crispy crust. The wine and beer selection is ample. Service was attentive and professional throughout.

The seasonal squash soup with toasted bread was so warm and satisfying, I was tempted to lick the bowl to get every drop, but avoided embarrassing myself by wiping it up with more bread. The house salad was fresh and refreshing with a tasty dressing. The spinach and ricotta ravioli was savory and delicious, and the pasta was perfectly cooked, which is a must. The large salmon filet was also perfectly cooked and very moist, and it had a nice pistachio crust. The brown butter caper raisin sauce covering the fish was an ideal complement. We ate so much, we didn't have room for dessert.

We recommend this place over other higher rated Boone restaurants on this website. You won't be disappointed, and it will be memorable.

“New Owners...Still Great!!”
Reviewed February 3, 2011

We have dined at Bistro for about 7 years and it continues to be one of our very favorite Boone restaurants! With the new owners, there are delicious new dishes in addition to some of the old ones. With the chef being one of the owners, you can bet the food is fabulous. Don't be fooled by the location in a strip shopping area. Go inside and let it become your favorite restaurant! Atmosphere, Service and Cuisine....Superb!

“Delicious restaurant for business or romance”
Reviewed July 21, 2009

Despite its unassuming location in a strip mall, this is a gem of a restaurant, a real boon (pun intended) for our small university town. The white tablecloth atmosphere and fine service are several cuts above all other restaurants in Boone, proper, except perhaps Vidalia. I've eaten here quite a bit--both for intimate dinners and for wining and dining job candidates, and my food has ranged from excellent to sublime. They do a particularly nice job with duck and with beef. There are also always several vegetarian options to choose from. The prices are in line or even less expensive than the other fine dining options in the Boone-Blowing Rock-Banner Elk area, and certainly more reasonable than an equivalent restaurant in NY or other large city. It's a sure recipe for a charming evening!
