THE BEST food! Great outdoor seating! Great wait staff! Top recommendations: artichoke dip, onion rings, pimento cheese.

LOVE the Chicken salad sandwich & French onion soup. That's my usual lunch choice. The combo is a better deal and there are several items to choose from. Always a great meal. The patio area is great when weather is nice. Service is a tad slow if they are slightly busy but it's a nice atmosphere to sit and talk with your dining companions.

Take it from someone who has lived in Boone for a long time, if you are looking for good food, stop here! Fantastic diverse menu - from grilled salmon salad to portobello wrap to chicken salad melt to pasta to southwestern fare to great sandwiches and burgers to the daily homemade soup and quiche the lunch menu is only outdone by the dinner menu. Check out the fantastic artichoke dip and zucchini strips w/honey mustard just to start and end with yummy pumpkin cheese cake or a creme brulee for two (you will not want to share). The Red Onion has a wonderful menu for children and a full bar for adults. The patio is great, atmosphere calming, wait staff top notch, why go anywhere else!

We came to the Red Onion Cafe after a suggestion from some locals downtown. We sat out on the patio and started with the Artichoke dip appetizer. It was the best we ever had. Then I got the Cajun pasta and my friend got the pesto pizza. Both were tasty and filling. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back.

Upon entering the restaurant, the doors looked very old and unmodern, not what we expected. I pictured the place to be light and airy, very sophisicated, but it was dingy and small. We noticed the windows were dirty, the window seals were dirty, the place looked like it needed a good cleaning w/bleach. The restrooms were clean, but dingy. Food was good, buy VERY overpriced for a middle class family. If you did want an entree, they were all $15 and above, with sandwiches at about $9. Service was good, everyone was friendly. Once again, not the only restaurant in Boone that is overpriced. People need to understand that locals live here as well, not people who vacation. Why should locals have to pay resort prices? More than likely will not return, but I will say the food and service was good.
