We arrived on Saturday and left on Friday. We had a great deal from Groupon and was very satisfied. We stayed in Villa 304 which had a king bed and was located on the top floor of the villa. Here's the thing to know about booking- the villas are outside the main hotel. You do have to go outside and walk up a little but steep hill to go anywhere. But they are lovely and private which is what we wanted. We never heard our neighbors even though we did see them throughout the day. The rooms in the inn are in a nice, central location. However, since the building is older, I could see it getting noisy. Our room came with a coffee maker, iron and board, small tv, closet with hangers, and a decent size bathroom.

breakfast was great. However, we ate the same thing every day: eggs, sausage, gravy, biscuits, toast, two types of cereal, and instant grits and oatmeal. It was great for the first few days but got boring quickly.

staff is wonderful, especially Will. They are accommodating and go out of their way for you. If you need something, just ask. Housekeeping comes by everyday with fresh towels and linens.

Upon arrival, we had a "free appetizer" coupon for the Table, the on site restaurant. We ate there three nights and had wonderful service and food. The burgers were just "ok" but everything else was great. On Thursday, they have live music.

I had a Swedish massage at the spa. Amazing!!!!

This was to be a special hotel for our 35th wedding anniversary. We were looking for something out of the ordinary; unique, restful, and beautiful. We arrived after a bit of a winding road, through an impressive front entrance. We assumed we had a room in the main building, but were directed to the surrounding smaller "homes" that housed hotel rooms. These were actually modular homes. Our room was in the basement, and was smaller than a Days Inn or similar hotel. The bed had chips in it, no curtains (other than a sheer) on the windows, no perks like microwave or fridge, and a small older TV. The bathroom was adequate, but again, no different than any chain hotel. We were given "vouchers" for breakfast, which were never asked for any morning we went. Breakfast was bland liquid type eggs, frozen type biscuits, canned gravy, sausages, baked frozen potatoes, instant oatmeal, cranberry muffin, and toast. No variety any morning. No fresh fruit. No yogurt. Pool not heated, small, only accessible certain hours, and down small winding path. Massages not included in price. Parking difficult on Saturday, when many came to restaurant. View is beautiful. There is an extra $15 "Resort Fee" that we were charged. We spent 4 nights here. It is clean and pretty quiet.

I stayed at this inn while visiting the area to scout routes for my bicycle touring business, Velo Girl Rides. I am planning to host at least one cycling tour in the High Country in 2015. The Inn is situated on one of the most beautiful roads I have ever seen. With easy access by bicycle to both the Blue Ridge Parkway and many popular cycling routes, it is the perfect place to base a cycling tour. Fine dining is available at the inn and near the property. Blowing Rock is just a few miles away. Breakfast outside on the patio with a view of the mountains was a special treat each morning. Our room was comfortable and spacious. The staff is gracious and knowledgable. Cannot wait to return for another cycling adventure.

Looking for a nice weekend getaway in the mountains, we needed a pet-friendly facility, and stumbled across this. Well. Let me tell you, they ARE pet friendly. First of all, we were not told, when we booked through a source that popped up offering us a great deal, that if we brought our puppy, who is crate trained and stays in his little indoor kennel when our eyes are not right on him, we could not stay in the main inn, because it housed the restaurant instead, we would be put in a "villa," outside the main inn. Food preparation laws, we were told. We thought we had booked for an "executive" room with all the usual amenities, and found that we had a room at the top of what seemed like a thousand stairs carpeted with grubby, dirty carpet. The place stank of, well...dogs. Or at least unclean dogs. I have three dogs and my house doesn't smell this bad. Then there was the "wooded" view we were promised: a tree. Lots of trees. Close up. Having wanted a mountain view in the main building, at least a panoramic wooded view was important to us, because we once lived in the area, and were hungry to be in the mountains again. Then there was the fact that other than a rickety wooden desk chair (the desk was tiny), there was no other chair, and only a bed to sit on. The bed was covered with a shabby green comforter that looked like the kind seen in a college dorm. There were no drapes on the windows. The television was miniature. The television was miniature. I saw no microwave, no refrigerator, nothing. All for upwards of $200 bucks a night. Or so we thought.

As we exited the room to go down the stairs, our dog was terrified because there was no light. And they were too much for me. The building--and the area--was filled with barking dogs, many running loose.

We were told we could not be "upgraded" (upgraded??? How about just getting what we paid for?). We were told that our money would be refunded. Yet when my husband appeared at the office to finish things up, suddenly no refund was possible without the booking agency's approval, which he wasted an extra half hour of our vacation in negotiating, going back and forth between the booking agency and the hotel, which had forgotten its promise to cancel the room and refund our money.

Now, about the "penny wise" thing. We paid what we considered a hefty fee for two nights there. We knew we would be charged a "resort fee," and we thought that was ridiculous, but even more ridiculous was that when we got there, we were also charged $15 for Internet service (!!!), breakfast and the aforementioned spa fee. Oh--and $25 a night for our innocent little puppy. You see my point. The idea, I suppose, is to make people think they're getting a good deal, and sock them with all these "extra" charges when they get there. I am glad to report that we got it all back. I hope. We'll see what our Visa statement says.

It is tourist season in the mountains. Be forewarned. As to the Inn at Crestwood, I would steer clear, based on the other reviews here. It could be a very pretty place to stay, but they need to get their act together. I wouldn't have minded paying the money if I got what was promised for it.

The room was clean however very out of date. Very over priced, the views were beautiful & staff was friendly. The pool was very small... I didn't have any major issues but I wouldn't stay here again. Short drive to restaurants & other attraction's.....

My wife and I stayed here in February of 2013 and loved it. We decided to return the first week of July, 2014 and enjoyed this visit also. The food is superb, and the scenery is outstanding. The crab cake and the mountain trout were fantastic on our first night's dinner. Next night the flatiron steak and salmon were also gourmet meals. Third night was more crab cakes, cured meats, and salads.

However, there are a few things that disappointed us. The floor in the dining room was not cleaned from the night before and had spots of food and crumbs throughout. This is a shame since the room is beautiful with nice white tablecloths and a beautiful setting to view the mountains. We saw the same crumbs for 3 days!

Each day, we got an email from James@Crestwood asking how the restaurant had done. When I replied, I finally got a reply from James that he no longer works there. In my opinion, this is another management issue. Makes me wonder if anybody is in charge.

We stayed in a villa that was clean and updated. However, there was no lamp on the computer desk / table area and the only chair in the room is an uncomfortable hard back chair at the computer table. I unplugged the lamp from the bedside table and moved it to the desk so I could see my keyboard. Also, the chair did not have rollers and it was almost impossible to move it on the carpet.

Also, the villas do not have ice machines. You will have to go to the front desk to get a bucket of ice (leave the villa and walk about 100 feet outside).

The WiFi connection is a bit slow and does not work all the time. The second day, we lost the connection for over 13 hours. It was then available for only an hour. Third day it only worked for about 30 minutes. Front desk personnel said they had reported it. Good thing we had a personal hotspot to use.

The closet hangers are firmly attached to the rod, and you cannot take them down to hang up your clothes, a real inconvenience.

Hot breakfast is served at 8 AM (supposedly - it was almost 8:10 AM before it was actually available on two days). Excellent sausage gravy and biscuits.

Bed was very comfortable and maids were courteous and efficient.

Spa services were outstanding! Couples massage was fantastic.

The villas do not have elevators. If you do not want to use stairs, ask for a room at ground level.
