Fantastic restaurant, found it 2 years ago on our visit to blue ridge parkway and made a point of going there again this year and as good as our memories of it, very friendly staff and the best fried chicken we have eaten in the USA. Good value, Only 8,000 mile journey from England but worth it, wish it was nearer to us.

Though the food was good, the price was steep! I feel that for the price you should have more options to choose from also. And I don't quite understand why everything is unlimited but the ham biscuits. And they don't accept cc but they will take a check? In this day and age, EVERYONE should accept cc! But it was a nice, friendly atmosphere and the food was really good!

This restaurant has some history to it. It has been a hospital and housing for students at Applachain State, and the last 50 years it has been a family owned restaurant. There are antiques hanging on the walls and sitting on shelves reminding one of years gone by.

All the food is served family style and all you can eat, but I don't know how anyone could eat moe than is served. For $16.95 you get fried chicken, chopped steak, ham biscuits, regular biscuits, green beans, corn, tossed salad, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy, and stewed apples which were soooo good. Additionally, you get coffee, tea or lemonade and a choice of strawberry shortcake, a really good chocolate cake, and banana pudding. The wait staff is friendly and efficient.

There is a parking lot on the side of the building and it is right down the street from Appalachain State University field house and dorms.

I saw the advertisement for this restaurant in a local visitor's magazine while visiting another local city, Blowing Rock, NC. They advertised "family style" food. The food, specially the chicken was excellent! Now from a marketing standpoint, it is an excellent concept. They limit the food choices, load you up on vegetables and bread, and you end up eating more than you would usually, but not so much as it would cost them. I was not impressed with the country steak, but enjoyed everything else. I didn't care that much for the branded ham and biscuits, but my companion loved them. The food was plentiful, and I was impressed with the friendliness of the staff, particularly with the fact that they said for us to stay as long as we want and eat as much as we like. The food that night (which is the normal menu) was fried chicken, country steak, biscuits, 4 ham biscuits (not available for all you can eat), corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, baked apples followed by a choice of chocolate cake, banana pudding or strawberry shortcake. I was surpised that they allowed us to take the ham biscuits home without any issue saying that anything we had on our table that we wanted to take home (as opposed to them throwing it away) could be wrapped in a napkin and the cashier would put it in a to go bag. Not normal for most all you can eat restaurants. The building was originally Boone, NC's first hospital and is a unique building. It looked a little funny in the middle of a busy modern intersection. Yes, it is a bit overpriced, but I would not hesitate to go back.

This place advertises heavily as a family style southern restaurant. That is a good description and the food was okay, all in all. The fried chicken was excellent. The problem though is that they charge an outrageous amount for the gimmick. Do you really want to pay 20+ for good fried chicken?
