We had a great time. This was something new and interesting. We found quite a few gems and the staff explained what each piece was. They even have the option to have your gems polished and set in jewelry.

We made a day trip up to Boone. Outlet shopping, and decided to try gem mining. I was not sure what to expect but this was really fun. My 9 year old girl had fun. The people who work there were great and even brought us some rocks we tossed because they were really gems. We bought the biggest bucket. And we had 3 gems made into jewelry. Sapphire ring like kate middletons (obviously smaller and in sterling). Peridot pendant. Emerald pendant. I brought home the other stones and will definetly use these folks to create more jewelry for me. Reasonable priced and lots of fun.

Went here the end of October-- my husband and I really enjoyed the experience. Bought the large big daddy bucket for $68---which includes a free cut on the lower grade gems. Took us a while to go thru this bucket. Staff was very helpful. They do tell you that the gems come from Brazil-- so don't be misled about North Carolina stones --- Yes there is lots of typical rocks and the gems are apparently thrown in-- but it is still very interesting and fun. I had a necklace made out of blue topaz and a large tiger eye. As this is there slow season these arrrived in two weeks and they are beautiful!! If you are in this area stop in-- it is a small place on the side of the mountain. I was very pleased with the whole experience !!

The views are gorgeous. The time you spend with your family is great. We have 2 (10 & 6 then) we all had fun searching for gems and found lots of them too. We made our daughter a necklace with earings of her birthstone she found. I had a gorgeous huge ring made. And a beautiful tigers eye gem pendant. They shipped it packaged nicely and in a timely manner. Could not ask for a better keepsake of our first winter family mountain trip :)
