Our family signed up for the full day raft trip on the French Broad. We had two teenage boys who were looking for a little more adventure than the Nantahala. My husband, teenage daughter and two 12 year olds were in a raft with Sloan, and the boys had the ducks. Sloan was fun and informative. He let us do a few things that were not "on the brochure" so to speak, and the river was definitely a little bit more adventurous than the Nantahala. The teen boys in the ducks were challenged, but in retrospect, the rest of us had it easier because our guide let us "rest" most of the time, while the ducks need constant rowing pretty much. The lunch was fine for us, and the day was sunny and beautiful. There was a healthy amount of fun and competition between the other guides and their rafters as well. The trip to Tenn. was longer than we expected, but I like seeing new mountain roads. Next time we will go caving. Thanks. The Charsley Family

River and Earth provides an exiting all day adventure. We had no experience with white water but the team at River and Earth alleviated all or concerns. They were fun, rambunctious but very professional with thier team effort. Sloan, Jordan and the staff are an exceptional bunch. We had a nine mile, five hour run starting with class two thru fours on the French Broad just outside Ashville; they transported us from Boone. If you want a local team with that small town flair use them; If you need to rent a house or cabin contact At Your Wits End Vacation Rentals in Boone; they recommended River and Earth along with other hot spots and we were'nt dissapointed. I only wish we had time to cave explore but perhaps next time.
PS lunch on the island at the bottom of the 20ft fall was great and watching others enjoy the fall or fall out was part of the fun and considering lunch was provided with the all day trip its well worth the cost.

Overall, the whitewater trip on the Watauga River was very pleasant and enjoyable for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids. While it wasn't risk taking in any stretch, it worked quite well in spending the better part of 5 total hours (not all of it on the river) for us. Next time, I would recommend (after a first trip whitewater rafting) on the French River, which is, my understanding, a whole-day event. Mike, our guide, was both fun and informative. Thank you.

A couple of side comments: The "lunch" wasn't much more than some pre-packaged lunchmeat on white or wheat bread and some chips. I think all of us would agree that we would have strongly preferred to do without completely....and in the course of it, reduce our costs by $5 or $10/each. It also spent over an hour in doing so. In addition, the drive to the outpost (in Tennessee) took about 1 hour and 10 minutes (without alot of traffic)...longer than we were told it would likely take.

Still, nice job. I would recommend this company and this guide. Thanks, Mike.

Went rafting on the Feench Broad on July 20, and had a phenomenal time. My three boys and I had Jordan as our guide and I cannot tell you how wonderful he was. He sensed we were ready for big water and encouraged us to paddle hard and we would hit big water. Man did he deliver! River and Earth is one of the smaller companies and because of that, you have more leeway to play on the river. Lunch was delicious with fresh tomatoes and lettuce on our sandwiches. This was a fantastic way to spend a day! Thanks Peter, Lucas, Mike, and especially Jordan.
