We frequently visit Blowing Rock as we have a place close by and we always stop at Six Pence. Their Guiness Stout is well served. Their Scott eggs appetizer is wonderful. Their French onion soup excellent. Their fish and chips remind us London and their bread pudding is something to write home about. I'm afraid I sound like Chamber of Commerce but it is honest truth.

Being married to an Englishman I have come to love and cherish British culture, food, and fun. This place has sooooooo much potential to get it right! The decor is brilliant with authentic mugs of virtually all famous Brits throughout history, authentic signage, and intriguing nick-knacks that pay tribute to the Anglophil. The dark wood wainscoting is to die for. The bar is cozy with perfect lighting. Bar tenders have always been friendly and some actually have good knowledge of British culture and history. Food is above average for an English restaurant in American, especially for the area in which you would not expect to find such an establishment.
However with the good comes the bad. The cons:
1) do not promote yourself as a British pub if you do not show football aka soccer on tv, nor do you even have the channels to support viewing
2) for gods sake open up for brunch- I came in there on a Sunday wanting to try something different and there was a full staff standing around, with only traditional lunch and dinner menu available at 11am; there are so many lovely British foods you can serve at this time not to mention the business you can generate year round because people never seem to tire of Blowing Rock Village regardless of season; not to mention make good use of that beautiful outdoor patio!
3) serve tea! and make it authentic PG tips, Tetley, not American produced crap (my husband personally found this very off putting).
4) serve typical English beer on tap. I am glad to see a place pay respect to local brews and micro-brews but people don't come to an English pub for American beer and if they do serve it in a bottle or out of only 1-2 taps.
5) specials events! special dinners! special drink nights! this summer would have been a great time to promote business by capitalizing on the English summer of the Jubilee and Olympics yet I do not think any events were organized or if they were, were done quietly. I know there are other locally English-owned restaurants which have special events like "Fish and Chip Night' once a month in which a seat is highly coveted.

I would like to see this place really make an effort and really put themselves out there and give ex-pats, Anglophil's, and curious/cultured mind's a-like a real taste of England. I think it would be a success. You have the crowd just play to them!

We've only had drinks at the bar, but the staff is extremely friendly. The menu looks great and we can't wait to try it. Maybe this weekend?

Had late lunch there this Sunday, watched NFC Championship game in bar. Great service and food. Wife had soup and salad, I had an excellent Rueben. Service was very good, friendly.
