“Authentic English/Irish Grub”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

Four of us decided to give the Six Pence Pub a try on a recent trip to Blowing Rock. We arrived in the early afternoon to find a full restaurant with about a thirty minuet wait. We put our name on the list and were called in about twenty minuets.

The restaurant reminds me of Pubs we have visited in Ireland and the U.K. The tables are close, but not crowded, the noise level was about what you would expect and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and enjoyable.

We had two starters consisting of fried pickles and "loaded bangers" both of which were served hot and tasty. For the main course we had Fish and Chips, Crab Cakes, and one of the daily specials which was a variation on "Pig in a Blanket" made with Cumberland sausage and served with mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was good and the portion size was big. Service was excellent.

We will certainly go back to the Six Pence on our next visit to this lovely mountain town.

“Great meal, great atmosphere”
Reviewed January 13, 2013 via mobile

My husband, son and I had lunch here before dropping our son off at Appalachian State Univ. I ordered the spinach salmon salad with balsamic dressing and mushrooms. It was excellent and filling. My husband ordered the sheppard's pie which was good but he said could have been hotter. My son ordered the roast beef sandwich and said it was ok.

I would go back here. Great service, great atmosphere. Get the salmon salad.

“U.K. Meets N.C”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

On a day trip to Blowing Rock, we wanted to eat
at Six Pence Pub. We started with Welsh rarebit,
the first time, I had ever had it, it was very tasty. I
got the Ploughman's lunch that came with salad,
soup (french onion) a huge wedge of chedder and
branston pickle ( it's not a pickle,but a sweet and
sour relish.) The soup was great and the pickle was
a big happy surprize. My husband got the Shephard's
pie. great thick creamy mashed potaoes and good filling
The service was great and the staff helpful and friendly.
