“A Rip-Off”
Review of The Blowing Rock

The Blowing Rock
Reviewed September 8, 2012

We took our family to see the noted "Blowing Rock" attraction and we were so disappointed. The view is pretty good, but not for $6 a person. And no, there was no "Blowing" going on either! My advice, save your money and venture out on the Blue Ridge Parkway for awesome views that are free.

We went to the Blowing Rock to see what all the fuss was about. Touring the attaction took less than 30 minutes. The view was really nice but at $6 for an adult ticket it was kind of a rip off. You can read about the Indian Folk Lore online and if it is a muggy day the views are really not that great. All in all it was a fun thing to do but not really worth the money,

We're history buffs, so we needed to see and touch it one time. However, it's really not worth the cost. You're only there 5 minutes before you're done. It cost us $20 for 2 kids and 2 adutls for 5 minutes. Really not worth it unless you have to see and touch history...which we did.

From the brochure you think that you are going to 'Hike' to the Blowing rock when in fact it is 10 steps away from the back door of the building where they charge you a fee to see the blowing rock. On the brochure they don't show you that the rock sits right on the short walkway. There is not really any 'blowing', but the view is gorgeous. The overlook is neat but the whole walk takes 5 minutes and the 'garden waterfall' is about 3 ft high and trickles into a tiny garden. My advice, do some 'free' hiking through some awesome rock trails to some spectacular waterfalls!

Good views and an interesting rock formation but ridiculous to charge an admission fee for nothing more than a lookout. Worth a one time visit but not a repeat tourist attraction. The bathroom is a dungeon and not safe for kids or disabled elderly due to unsafe stairs to it but at least that is free.
