I frequent this restaurant and thought I would review this time. My husband and I went for dinner on Monday evening. Our waiter, Paul, was excellent. He provided excelelnt service and attention to detail. He was happy to accomodate my sepcial request for no dairy with no hesitation. The food was delicious, I had trout, hubby had duck. We sat near the cozy fireplace. It was a really nice evening. Highly recommended.

This was our first night in Blowing Rock and we wanted to celebrate with something special. After looking up local restaurants and reading reviews we decided on Bistro Roca. It was a cold and windy weekend. It was packed on Saturday night and we got lucky with finding a parking spot. The parking lot is small and the outside could use a few more lights leading to the restaurant. The inside has a wonderful lodge décor. The hostess was confusing when she told us it would be a 30-45 minute wait time (since we didn’t have a reservation) but we could go to the bar or we could sit on the back glass patio which is closed in and heated. Five minutes later she came and got us for the back patio (which was hardly full). The back patio is closed in and has both a fireplace and a heater blowing warm air. We actually preferred this than being inside because it was quieter and felt like you had some privacy.

There were several items on the menu that sounded delicious like the Short Rib Manicotti, Wild Caught Salmon and the Kobe Tri-Tip Steak. Our waiter informed us that they were out of Bison meat and several vegetables but that didn’t really affect our choices. The waiter was helpful with suggestions and I got the Kobe Tri-Tip Steak and my girlfriend got the Short Rib Manicotti. The Bistro Specialties comes with the Roca Salad Sampler, which is a single plate with mini versions of a Caesar salad and the Salad De Casa. Interesting concept. The steak was tender, juicy and delicious. My girlfriend didn’t really like the taste of the Short Rib Manicotti (which ended up being my lunch the next day). She would have preferred one of the wood-fired pizzas after seeing the actual oven near the front.

We would definitely go back and try other items on the menu. The place is gorgeous on the inside and would like to see the view from the back patio during daylight and during the spring/summer months.

Group of 4 ate on Sunday night. Sold out of all specials on menu at 7pm. Food came out slowly and only meal came out at a time. Waiter did not serve all members at table at same time. We had 2 of our group sat without any food while other food served. Salads were forgotten, sides incorrect and slow, slow, slow. Inexcusable to serve at different times and having some members of party waiting. Need to work on the details.

We are locals, and this is our first (and 2nd and 3rd) choice for dinner in NC. The food is always great. We happen to prefer the house salad and pizza, so the price is also very good. The servers, like the restaurant, are unpretentious, but the ambience is wonderful. What's there not to like?
