A group of ten friends arrived tired and wet and received a most warm and welcoming reception including wine and a cheerful fire.
The stone building was built as a summer residence but for the past 30 plus years has been run as an Inn by one family.Views are spectacular. Each room (of the five we occupied) had a gas fire place. Beds were comfortable and rooms quiet.
The most impressive aspect is the staff. To a person they couldn't do more for us from drying drenched riding gear to finding some wire to fix a mechanical issue on one of the bikes. All done cheerfully and quickly and often without being asked.
Dinner (separate review coming) was superb.

Wife and I have been returning to the Gideon Ridge Inn at least once a year for the past fourteen years. It is sincerely one of the highlights of our year, and we've met many couples who are as fiercely loyal to the Gideon as we are.

Peaceful. Quiet. Off the grid. Great place to reconnect. Beautiful Inn and natural surroundings set high on the mountain. Pristine, beautiful views of the Blue Ridge. Wonderful breakfasts. Unique, cozy rooms.

The staff is always friendly and attentive, happy to help with a dinner recommendation (even making the reservation!) or special requests. Strange, but it's almost a family atmosphere (I mean that in a good way). They work very hard at being sensitive to how much (or little) assistance you want.

Rooms are all unique and very well appointed. Beds are all comfortable. Gas fireplaces are a hit in the cooler months. My wife and I prefer the downstairs rooms, as they have wonderful outside stone terraces. Great for summertime lounging.

Breakfasts are a high point to the stay as well. Great featured meals, or just let them know your own request! Great views of the grounds and mountains from the dining room. Restaurant G serves multi-course dinners in the evenings and is fabulous.

The main den area has a large stone fireplace and is a great gathering place to meet folks during the afternoon for tea.

The village of Blowing Rock is a great place as well, just a short five minute ride from the Inn. Beyond the touristy elements, it has great parks and walking options, some very nice shopping and dining options.

Overall, a tremendous high country lodge experience! Highly recommended.

We were totally captivated by the inn and the placement of the inn on a ridge overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. The service was excellent. The rooms and common areas immaculate. We had a stone floor covered porch overlooking the mountains and the gardens of the inn. We felt like we never wanted to leave.

Room Tip: Since the inn was full the week we were there, we could not explore all the rooms. We stayed in the...

We totally enjoyed our recent visit to Gideon Ridge. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and they took the extra time to leave champagne and chocolate covered strawberries in our room - what a treat!!! The grounds are gorgeous as well as the views, the staff was extremely attentive to all needs and it was one of the most relaxing times we've had in a long while. The room was very comfortable and no small detail was left undone.

This remodeled 19th century residence is an unusual treat...about two miles from downtown Blowing Rock....spectacular views of the mountains and grounds...service was unsurpassed in its professionalism and kindness...cozy sitting areas- a great place to contemplate life....outstanding breakfast. WISH LIST: 1) more sound insulation in the rooms (the person above us seemed to be conducting a bowling tournament for a short time), and; 2) consistent mobile phone and internet service. While I respect the "retreat from humanity" argument to a point, this is the 21st century, and we need to be able to communicate from more than a landline phone; the option to use or not use communication technology should be left to the guest.

A wonderful Inn - with very nice surroundings. A very short distance outside the city center of Blowing Rock. We spent one night there wanting to experience the cool mountain air during the summer. We enjoyed a lovely dinner, and their great breakfast.
When there, check out the history of this place. We very much enjoyed the gardens and the great porch.

We stayed at the Gideon Ridge for a night over Memorial Day, in the Blue Room. We have previously stayed in the Grandfather Mountain Suite, but we were late in making a reservation, and this was the only room in the Inn. This is a great property, it is perched on a ridge overlooking the valley below Blowing Rock.

Our room was very nice. The bed was comfortable, and the linens, towels etc. were really nice. The staff at Gideon Ridge is extremely attentive. It is a really quiet property as most of the rooms do not have a television set. However, there is a tv room in the Inn, in the basement area so it is not disruptive. The internet connection is good so you do have access to the world! However, it is most pleasant to sit on the wrap around porch with a glass of wine as the day winds down, away from the bombardment of media.

The restaurant at the Inn is open Tuesday through Saturday, as we were there on Monday we were unable to dine in this lovely setting. We have dined at the Inn, and would recommend it to anyone staying on the property, especially on busy weekends as Blowing Rock can get quite congested.
