“Restful Vacation Spot”

My husband and I visited the Village Inn of Blowing Rock for a mini-getaway. We stayed in the Summerville Cottage. The room was exactly as pictured on their website. Spacious, up-to-date, and extremely clean.
We did wish the room had a balcony facing the stream and were glad we brought a small fan to block out street noise at night.
The Village Inn was the perfect hideaway for us to enjoy some down time.

We love hearing that our guests enjoy their stay with us! It is so wonderful to find that the rooms are enjoyed for the purpose that they were meant, as a restful getaway from life's pressures. Blowing Rock itself has a refreshing, laid back pace-of-life and all of the Village Inns are located right in downtown! Unfortunately, with this convenience comes the sound of an occasional passing vehicle. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We stayed at the Village Inn in route to Asheville/Hot Springs, NC via the Blue Ridge Parkway. After a long days drive, the Village Inn was a perfect stopping point. Although the room was a tad on the small size, it was just enough space for my husband, myself and our puppy for the night. We loved having a patio that stepped right into a grassy area for the dog. The room was uniquely decorated and not what you would expect staying in a motel (or hotel for that matter!). The Village Inn was within walking distance of the village of Blowing Rock and we enjoyed walking through town, window shopping (although most of the shops were closed for the evening), eating dinner and ice cream for dessert. Breakfast was a little more than a continental affair, but nothing to write home about. Overall we enjoyed our one night stop-over, and would love to come back for a longer stay.

My husband and I checked into this hotel at around 8:30 p.m. on November 13, 2009. Upon arrival, we put down our bags and turned on the heat as the room was very cold. We then left for dinner out. When we returned, the room was ice cold. We worried with the heater for some time, but it would only blow out cold air. We had to turn it off and rely on the heater in the bathroom. It was a good thing the room was sooooo small, or we would have had frost bite by morning. The bathroom was so tiny that only one of us could get ready at a time. The breakfast was cold and rubbery. We were in the "Deluxe King" and let me say there was nothing deluxe about it! When I checked out the next morning, the clerk never asked how our stay was and never gave me my receipt. By the way, he was the only staff we saw the whole time. Very poor service and the room was small and not very clean. I will look elsewhere next time.

A picture is worth a thousand words! The pictures on the internet are quite a bit nicer than the actual room. While remodeled, the room reeked of mildew. Stayed for two nights and the smell never abated. As to a thousand words--you will here EVERYTHING that the people in the room next to you has to say! Conversation is annoying, but we had a good ol' domestic dispute that begin around 10:30 p.m. and ran throughout the night. As there is no manager on duty through the night, there was no one to contact. A very disappointing adventure!

I am also very disappointed that this guest did not enjoy their stay at our hotel. While a domestic dispute is out of our control in neighboring rooms, we do offer a 24 hour emergency contact number for all guests in the event of such occurrences. In response to the musty smell, we did experience an unusual amount of rainy weather in the month of September and were dealing with the dampness of that. We have taken measures to address that issue and have resolved it. Thank you for the review and please come back in the future.

I could have probably overlooked the fact that this was a motel-style accomodation (ie doors open to the outside parking lot) and within 300 yards from a busy road (Highway 321) if the front desk attendant had not been so apathetic that he bordered on rude. Not even a "hello" or "welcome" was uttered upon our entry into the small reception area....just "name?". Upable to engage this bored looking young man into any conversation about the hotel (which looked wonderful on the web site) - "can you tell us about the different room types?"..."here is a brouchure" he sighs...instead of telling us the features of the breakfast and other amenties, he merely hands us a small slip of paper and says - "here is information about breakfast". So, needless to say we were not impressed by the lack of client responsivness. It only got worse when we entered our room to be encountered with a moldy, musty smell. Heading straight to the sliding glass door, I notice the screen door was leaning agains the glass, completely off the track; that combined with an old, used coffee cup sitting on the deck, did nothing to raise my hopes that this weekend getaway was meeting my expectations! If this was a $70 room, I might have not minded so much; but paying close to $200 for a night I expected much more than this noisy, tiny, musty room. Additionally the towels were thin and scratchy with no hooks to hand them on and one of the two armchairs was completely broken. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

I am very sorry to hear that this guest did not enjoy their stay with us. During the month of September we experienced an unusual amount of rain but we have the situation under control. In response to the behavior of the front desk clerk, I cannot explain the situation other than to say that all of our guest service representatives are well trained and skilled to be polite and resourceful to our guests. I apologize for the lack of professionalism that was shown to these guests upon check-in and have taken immediate action to resolve the issue in the future. Thank you for the comment as we value all information left by our guests.
