Thrilled it was sold. A motel from the 50's era, much was accomplished with the finery in place. Fabulous but with problems. Such location hopefully the new owners will let the river flow with less neurosis. Framed Paul Newman on the bathroom wall and a Bob Timberlake gallery adjacent.

Reviewed April 1, 2005

We stayed at this inn in February, 2005, on the recommendation of a friend. There were 4 of us, 2 kids, 2 adults. I was a bit worried because I knew the inn had been sold in January and I wasn't sure if the new owners would keep the same atmosphere, etc that my friend had told me about. It turned out to be a fine place to stay, not fancy, but clean, and very comfortable for the 4 of us. We stayed in one of the cabins. My biggest complaint was the uncomfortable furniture in the living room, no couch, just some chairs that made you feel like you were going to fall forward, out of them. The only other problem we had was the whirlpool tub - it had some kind of weird timer thing going on and would come on and cycle about every 15 minutes and it was LOUD. As soon as it happened and we realized we couldn't fix it, we called the front desk and even their maintenance fellow couldn't figure it out. Luckily, we found the breaker box and just turned the switch off. If we hadn't, I don't think we would have gotten any sleep. The front desk girl was very apologetic and adjusted our bill a bit when we checked out. FYI - bedding-wise, there is a king bed upstairs and a queen down. My children are a boy, age 13 and girl, age 9. They had to share a bed, which grossed them both out (haha). Also, the bedding/mattresses/pillows were very comfortable and I slept great. Overall, the place had a real "homey" atmosphere. Don't expect the Hyatt and you won't be disappointed.

Management response:Responded June 14, 2006

The Villages Inns of Blowing Rock (The Village Inn, The Hillwinds, and The Ridgeway were all purchased in Janurary 2005 by one owner. They have all undergone extensive renovations which were finally completed in May 2006. The Ridgeway being the last of the Inns to be finished. I think this guest would be amazed at the transformation the cottage he stayed in has taken. A professional Interior Designer was hired to redo all the rooms from top to bottom. Sometimes it just takes a little time to do all the work needed when one purchases a major fixer-upper!
