Description: Big Flavors - Casual Dining. The New Public House restaurant offers reasonably priced, delicious favorites in a relaxed, comfortable, and exciting environment. The New food concept was created by-renowned chef Michael Foreman. He supports local purveyors, regional flavors and offers a "NC farm to table" experience. The restaurant's bar is available for meeting friends and enjoying a drink or a meal in more casual setting. Offerings include our small plates specialties, as well as local NC beers; great wines by the glass and exotic, specialty cocktails by our own mixologist

This place is the best restaurant in Blowing Rock! Great cocktails and wine selection (at least 30 by the glass). I went with a group and we ordered lots of plates and tried everything and it was all delicious! Favorites were the Molasses dirty south wings and the Quail. Love the new atmosphere and decor. Waiter was super attentive.

Nice atmosphere and decor but the blandest and uninviting meal we have had in a long time. Horrible service made it even worse. What a waste of an evening in Blowing Rock

We stayed at the Gideon Ridge Inn and overheard another couple talking about the New Public House, so we thought we'd give it a shot since we always eat at Bistro Roca (amazing!). I read the reviews which were just so so, but thought we'd try it anyways.

The whole restaurant misses the mark in many ways.

1) The interior is unexciting, somewhat drab. Nothing like the upbeat, vibrant feel at Bistro. It's not romantic either...it just sort of is. Blah. Several times we heard kids ramming around in the upstatis (it's in a basement of sorts with a hotel on top).
2) The food was good to very good. Not excellent, but very good. But at least in our experience the portions were too big. Other reviewers complained about the portions being too small, bot sure what planet they were from, but tapas are meant to be small. These were not.
3) Our server was awful. She did nothing to enhance the experience. Zero. I mean this is blowing rock, were a restaurant like this is competing with restaurant G, bistro roca, etc.. our server would have been great at a sports bar....but here she added zero. didn't even refill our water glasses without asking.

Note: The wine guy (owner?) was great. He helped us choose a great, reasonably priced bottle of wine from their "reserve" list....but that also made no sense, as the reserve list is only available upon request, but it contains the good wines and for a reserve list, $79.00 is not a lot for a bottle of wine.

4) the tables are too small and they give you these odd rectangular plates which are always in the way. It may seem trite, but they get annoying after a while.

Anyways, this place has promise if they redecorate, ramp up their serving staff (lose the jeans as well) and make the place fun! Tapas are supposed to be served in a fun environment....we'll not be back to the Public House. Head over to Restaurant G or Bistro Roca, the prices are similar and you'll get amazing food with wonderful service.

Knew the other great restaurants by the family in this wonderful town so was expecting a good experience. Despite reservations we waited over 10 minutes to get our table where there were many open ones. My appetizer had rancid tasting sweet potato chips. The rest of the group said food was fair, but definitely not to the standards of their other restaurants. Service was ok, but not attentive. With other options, will need to hear much more positive things from others before venturing back.

Owners Cobb and Cindy Milner have created a new small plate concept for High Country with lovely appointments and top-notch staff. We had wild mushrooms served in a skillet with cottage cheese and green onions - deep woody flavor. Swordfish tacos were my choice - more than ample portion with exceptional seasoning. My companion had a pork shank that was pleasing as was the banana/apple pie with buttermilk ice cream. I am eager to return for breakfast. I noticed silk curtains that separate rooms for private parties.
