“changing names doesn't change service”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

Southern Comforts is the new name for the old Knights on Main in Blowing Rock. the new owners are the former Mountain House owners from Boone. Rumors abound about why they moved and changed their name after 25+ years. The service hasn't changed a bit. the owner has her reputation and apparently there are many who like it. Many don't. Gruff would be a kind description. On my first visit for breakfast, our waiter tried hard but could not remember much. pleasant and apologetic but still food wasn't delivered together. The room is tight and cramped and there was a line waiting to get in.(always will be in this small tourist town). I asked a waitress if she could ask those waiting not to hold the door open. many seated were getting cold. She was appalled by my request and begged not to have to ask them to do that. I waited outside with the door closed why not others? Try the New House restaurant for breakfast in BR.

“This restaurant took over Knights on Main and it's GOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

We were pleasantly surprised at Southern Comforts, which is where Knights on Main was. It is excellent food. We were a little hesitant as we had been regular customers of Knights for years. The food is home cooking, well-prepared, just plain delicious. And the prices are reasonable. We were in Blowing Rock 2 weeks ago and stayed for 2 nights and we ate there all of our meals, except for one. It was so good, why try anything else? The country style steak was to die for; so tender, the gravy, uuum. Mash potatoes - real. All the vegetables are seasoned well. If you love good homemade southern cooking, you will LOVE this place. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner there, a total of 5 meals. All were excellent.

“Great waiter not so great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

I was visiting from Raleigh with my Yankee mother in law from NY. Our waiter, Pete, was really nice and provided amazing service even though my mother in law gave him a hard time about the food. It was obvious that the food was frozen and not prepared in house. The mashed potatoes were oddly colored and cold as well as the Mac and cheese. Overall, the bluegrass band was amazing and I feel terrible for the waiter who probably gets terrible tips because of the food. I would come back to drink at the bar and listen to the band.

“great place to hang out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

Stopped in for a drink while wife was shopping,Bartender was friendly and knew what he was doing, the mixed drinks were Awesome! Live music in the corner,Sports on TV, very laid back atmosphere, felt very "at home" unlike most places in Blowing Rock we had been.Wife ended up joining me later 'cause I didn't want to leave! We were give a table right away and shared an order of fried okra and chicken strips. They were brought out quickly after ordering, hot and fresh. Nothing fancy, just simple and nice.Prices were very reasonable as well. We'll be back for sure.
