“Lovely village!”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

I went to Blowing Rock with my dear friend for a weekend retreat, and we were enchanted - by the town, the people, the beauty. The village is quaint and lovely, nestled in the mountains of NC. We walked through town, met and talked with the local folk at the restaurants, newspaper, and museum, and even ate Liver Mush at the diner! (If you haven't read the Mitford series by Jan Karon, I highly recommend. The books are set in small town NC, and this was her inspiration).

“A real gem!”
Reviewed February 23, 2012

This museum is new to Blowing Rock. It features a video on the history of the area and a small permanent collection as well as temporary exhibits. You will be surprised to find a museum like this in the small town of Blowing Rock. Lots of interesting information as well as an unbelievably beautiful building make this a hidden gem. Free adequate parking behind the facility is also convenient.

“Must-see destination in Blowing Rock”
Reviewed February 15, 2012

The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM) is an essential stop for anyone interested in the history of the mountains of North Carolina. It opened on October 1, 2011 and still has that "new museum smell," if you know what I mean. The architecture of the new building combines mountain woodwork and stonework to give a timeless feel that fits right in with its quaint village setting. Exhibits at the museum include a tribute to Blowing Rock impressionist Elliott Daingerfield that features over 100 paintings and personal items, a look back at the historic hotels of Blowing Rock, and a study of the town's namesake, the rock outcropping that has been a tourist destination for over a century.

The museum also features a gift shop, little movie theater, community room for receptions and other events, and is home to the Blowing Rock Tourism Development Authority. There are also dozens of different brochures available, giving visitors to the museum plenty of ideas of other places to visit while they are in the High Country. The staff of the museum is friendly and well-informed.
