We love this park ! A great place to hike, fish or just relax! There are so many things to do...perfect in every season...even on snowy days!

We took our grandsons to the picnic area at Julian Price. They enjoyed playing in the stream after lunch. We had camped many times in the campground but never been in the picnic area. The picnic area is free. There were a lot of picnic tables with plenty of space between them. We thought you had to wade across the river to get to some of the tables but they were accessible over a rock dam near the entrance to the area. The middle area across the rock dam has water on both sides. There were a lot of families playing in the water. The restrooms were fine. The adjacent campground has no electricity or showers and only has cold water in the restrooms. I think the picnic area restroom had a skylight for light. We rode through the campground and didn't think it was as bad as recent reviewers had said, but we prefer to have electricity and showers in the bath house and a light outside the restroom for $20 a night. Several of the sites had good views of the water. They had cleaned out some of the rhododendron beside the water. The grass had been cut ( maybe the rain had stopped long enough) and we didn't notice moss on the picnic tables.

Beautiful park on the Blue Ridge Parkway just a few miles from Blowing Rock. The lake trail is very nice, the boat rentals are great, and the picnic area is nice.

We stopped to look at the campground (as we were driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway). Wow! what a great place to camp. Sites are shady and private and surrounded by trees and shrubs (it is so shady that some of the campground tables on the north side were topped with moss!)
We also did a walk around the lake (but had to turn around at the halfway point as a bridge was out and we didn't have shoes to spare-as we would have had to walk in marsh for about 30 ft).
Kayaks/ (and canoes too I think) are rented at the boat landing. We asked some people who were on the lake and they said they rented for $10 hr.
