“Will never make reservation here again”
Reviewed August 22, 2010

My husband and I made reservations to stay Thanksgiving night at the Alpine Village Inn, in Blowing Rock Inn. We were bringing our house trained small dog and therefore requested a pet friendly room. Upon arrival, my husband mistakenly paid $175.00 in cash for the room and we were given the key.

After receiving the key we walked to the room which had such a strong chemical smell that immediately upon opening the door we knew there was no way we could sleep there. Out little dog even refused to walk over the threshold of the room. I walked back to the office to explain our situation and the owner denied any chemical smell to the room but offered to put a fan in the room to see if fresh air would assist. We told her that with my allergies it would not be an option for us. The owner then offered us another room. When asked if this room had also been deodorized she stated yes. I politely asked for a refund after it was determined that for health reasons we could not stay at her establishment. Owner became hostile and since she was paid in cash she told us that she was a small business owner and would not refund our money. We offered to pay a late cancellation fee which the owner also declined. I explained to the owner that I would be writing a letter the the Chamber of Commerce which was never answered. I also wrote a letter of complaint to the BBB which did do an investigation although the owner would not respond to the second letter that the BBB sent to the Alpine Village Inn. Since we paid in cash we had to lose our $175.00 and move to another hotel which was very clean and a pleasure to stay in. Lesson learned, never pay in cash b/c you have no recourse when you receive poor customer service.

Went to hike the nearby mountains near Blowing Rock. The drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway is a regional classic. We needed a hotel which accepts dogs.

1. The suite with fireplace/jacuzzi has a very homey feel, and is clean. The bathroom was spotless. $190/night
2. A two minute walk from downtown.
3. Very friendly reception. The manager and staff made us feel very welcome.
4. There is a 20-year old cat at the reception !

While there is no breakfast, Crummins restaurant (30 second walk) for $10 will serve you a complete American breakfast - bacon, eggs, sausage/muffin etc

We had a very positive experience. We will return !

The room itself was clean and comfortable and the price was right. The furnishings were a nice blend of antiques and semi-antiques, the bed was comfortable, the owners were friendly and helpful, nice location in Blowing Rock BUT----the bathroom was so small that my knees hit the wall when I sat on the toilet and there was no smoke detector. Apparently there had been one wired into the ceiling but it was missing. Also the thru the wall heat pump for heat and AC was hard to regulate and very noisy.c

My husband and I have stayed several times at the Alpine Village Inn. We always enjoy our stay there and have never been bothered by loud noises or barking dogs. It has always been very quiet and the owners go out of their way to always make our stay a pleasant one. We have always found it to be clean and very comfortable. We are already looking forward to returning soon.

We stayed at the Alpine "Inn" (really a motor court) over the weekend. It's right in town, a plus for us. The surroundings (yard, etc.) are very pleasant, however, this is a pet friently place (which I didn't realize) and most guests had dogs with them. There was always someone out in the yard with a dog, usually barking. Our room was a king---the room was much too small for a king bed. The linens were tired--sheets had a hole in them!! Over all, the rooms need a face lift--very country poo! Unfortunately, the place was very loud at night, with people hanging out in front of everyone's rooms. I wish I could give a more positive review, but we won't be returning!

This was our third stay over 10 years at the Alpine Village Inn. Once again we were very happy with it and will return the next time we are in Blowing Rock. Other reviews have noted how clean and homey the rooms are and I would agree. The bathroom was so clean the paint on the white beadboard was not even scuffed. The owners are very accomodating and genuinely nice people.

The one negative is the size of the room. Set your expectations for a VERY small room. However, we slept all five of us, with our three year old on the floor between the beds, and were perfectly happy because we only slept there. We kept busy with hikes, the park, etc... during the day and were all exhausted enough to settle down together in the evening. There are rockers outside your room so you could hang out there if you wanted to put the kids down earlier.
