“Fell in Love!”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

A spontaneous trip on a Friday afternoon with no place to stay didn't seem like such a bad idea. Little did I know it was artist in the park weekend, and my idea for a secluded cabin was quickly shattered. After riding and calling around for a few hours we passed the Inn. It was beautiful but we couldn't afford the only cabin they had left that was off property. So we went on to another quaint little motel. After seeing just the lobby of the Inn, there was NO WAY any where else would do when the idea of mountain lodging came to mind. At 9 PM we barely made it in when the lady at the front desk made us feel quickly at home (even though we held her up from going home). She made sure we knew directions to the cabin and even stayed a little later to call the cabin a few minutes later to make sure we arrived. As soon as we pulled in the drive we knew it was EXACTLY what we were looking for all those hours of riding around. From the front door to back, every foot of the cabin was amazing. The porch was even better, and finding this gem (even if only for a couple hours) made our whole trip worth while. We definitely will be back to cabin 6!

Room Tip: I'm sure every room is beautiful!

Last year we happened upon this quaint little motel/inn and decided to return again this year. Deborah, the proprietor is a gem. She is witty, warm, friendly and will do anything to make your stay special. The room is old and small, but the decor is wonderful. This stay it happened to be rainy weather and we could not sit outside and enjoy the fire pit. There are flowers everywhere and you feel like you are at home. I happened to lose my tri-focals in the morning and could not find them anywhere in the room. She went out of her way to look too and finally, we got a call later in the day that the cleaning person found my glasses and so we returned to Blowing Rock and had a great lunch at Foggy Rock restaurant.

The Mountainaire Inn offers some nice touches to the guest experience that other places do not. While our guest room with its king size bed and bathroom were very small and decor was quite dated compared to other places, the Inn and staff offered some nice warm touches that helped add value to the rental rates. We arrived late Friday night and our room was left unlocked for us which was a very nice gesture and the warm conversation and friendly check-in process Saturday morning with the owner and the sweet little blonde dog that greeted me was very pleasant. The less social fat black cat added a nice presence to the check in process especially since I enjoy both dogs and cats. We took them up on one of several restaurant suggestions and it proved to be a very good choice, and we enjoyed the hot tea, hot chocolate and coffee station that is made available to guests during their stay. Even though the weather prevented use of the fire pit area, its a nice ammenity to offer interested guests as well. It snowed while we were there and I noticed ice scrapers with snow brushes had been set out for guests to use on their windshields. Aside from these small extra's and a few others, the location is superb for visiting the shops and restaurants on Main Street, a very convenient place to eat breakfast is just across the street, the Inn's landscaping is nicely lit with white lights at night, and rooms are clean with comfortable beds. Recalling all these little extra features, there is more to the Inn that just the size of the guest room. We did hear some noise coming from adjacent rooms at times but nothing that interfered with our 9:00pm bedtime. I do suggest better window treatments that face the inn's inner walkways that do a better job of keeping out the outside lights at night and offer more privacy from passers by. I will likely try a stay in one of the Inn's adorable cabins next time and I'm already looking forward to it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and mostly thank you for being a guest here.

We value your input and want you to know that we are looking at possible changes to the window treatments that will better block the light and fit with our efforts to preserve the character and integrity of the inn. We have chosen to use antiques furnishings where possible and practical and have carefully selected the linens.

We do hope you will return. We can’t promise that the cat will be any friendlier the next time. But we can promise to do all that we can to help make your stay enjoyable.

The owners are so friendly and helpful and the rooms are quaint and cozy! The owners went out of their way to make everything so comfortable. I was there for Winterfest and we had a blast! It actually snowed so it was very nice to be within walking distance from restaurants and stores. Donna

These are very cozy, romantic and charming cottages which we absolutely enjoyed. The folks who run the place are extremely helpful and will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. Rooms/cottages are always cleaned daily and firewood is replaced ! We were delighted to return this year and see that everything was once again very enjoyable ! We rated 5 stars and will return again.

It's not always about the accommodations, it's also about the folks you meet along the way. In the case of the Mountainaire Inn, both come together to make this a special place. Deborah, Jim, Donna and Claudine were so nice to us. We felt valued as customers and treated like friends. If you want to enjoy Blowing Rock, this is the place to stay. It is small, but meticulously clean. It should be enjoyed as a nostalgic little inn nicely preserved and updated and not compared to a cookie cutter motel. A short walk from downtown. Great attention to detail. The cliche' "class act" comes to mind, but this is no act. These are genuinely nice people who hold their business to high standards because it is their nature. We enjoyed our time together.

Room Tip: Just ask Debra or Donna

We have always enjoyed Blowing Rock, but never more than last weekend when we stayed at Mountainaire. Our room was cozy, clean and well appointed, and the grounds are meticulously kept and beautiful. The inn is so well managed and guest-friendly. We ate at a restaurant recommended by the front desk, and it was excellent. The night we stayed we were sitting outside by a freestanding fireplace set up in the common area and Deborah, the owner with her husband Jim, came out to give us blankets and stoke the fire. It was a special experience and we would highly recommend this inn to anyone looking for a great place to stay at a reasonable price. INote: We have never written a review before, but wanted to do so in this case....John and Susie P.
