“Lovely B and B”

We had a wonderful stay here. The breakfasts are delicious and so filling. The rooms are comfortable with huge modern bathrooms. It sits on a lake with walking paths. The town of Black Mountain is within walking distance which is a real plus. It is fun to walk through the neighborhood on the way to downtown. The innkeeper is a talented gardener and it is so relaxing to sit on the deck and look out on to the garden and lake. The innkeepers were very gracious and helpful. This Inn had been highly recommended and we were not disappointed! My ONLY complaint is I wish they had bigger TV's as we enjoy watching movies but it was really not a big deal. And some people may prefer no TV. They have a good selection of DVDs.

Room Tip: The downstairs room facing the lake is spacious and very comfortable. the bathroom is large with a...

My wife and I spent the night of our wedding here on the way to Orlando for our honeymoon. Due to having to turn around to get forgotten luggage, we didn't get to Arbor House until VERY late. We called Arbor House and explained that we wouldn't be getting in until late and Dave was very kind and patient with us! When we arrived, Dave was waiting for us and warmly welcomed us in to their beautiful bed and breakfast! We stayed in the High Windy room and the room was quiet, VERY clean, the bed was SUPER comfortable, and the bathroom is the star of this room. The shower is second to none! Breakfast was a home cooked meal served on the deck overlooking the amazing gardens and lake. The breakfast was a peaceful and relaxing start to our honeymoon. Carolyne was great! She was so friendly and made us feel like we were part of the family. We recommend Arbor House to EVERYONE. There is a reason that they have all 5 star reviews! I would give them 6 stars if I could!

my husband and i traveled to black mountain to stay at the arbor house for our 2nd anniversary. we booked far enough out to stay in lookout; lookout has a wonderful view (as do the others), but this one has a small balcony big enough for a bistro table and chairs. we really enjoyed sitting outside and enjoying what we do not have at home.
breakfast is a meal to be celebrated at this bed and breakfast. while the breakfast is gourmet and beautiful, it is not a ridiculous amount of unhealthy food. suitable servings of fresh fruits accompanied by peach pancakes or sausage and egg casserole were enough to make you look forward to the next morning.
dave and carolyn are gracious hosts and always looking to be a blessing to your stay.
don't come stay in this place just to never be around. allow yourself to come and do absolutely nothing. a wonderful haven for relaxation and rejuvenation.
thank you, dave and carolyn!

The Arbor House was delightful. We especially enjoyed the walk around the lake, visiting the grand mountains near-by, easy access to Black Mountain and near-by Asheville and an altogether glorious vacation! High Windy was a very spacious and comfortable room; we slept well and relaxed well, too. Breakfast was good and the chocolate chip cookies we discovered our last night there were over the top! Many thanks to Carolyn and Dave for hospitality that is warm, welcoming and comfortable!

This B and B looks directly on a small mountain lake; 2 of the 4 rooms look directly onto the lake with the mountains beyond. Our room, Graybeard, had one wall full of windows to enjoy the garden below and the lake nearby. As the property borders the lake, you can walk out the back gate to the popular lake walking path.
The house is fairly new although decorated in a fairly traditional manner, which we found welcoming and convenient in terms of layout. In the Greybeard room, there is a huge whirlpool tub and separate shower in the bathroom (not in an alcove by the bed, as you see in some places). Plus there are two comfortable reading chairs (or gazing-out-at-the-lake chairs!).
Breakfast was delicious and wonderful, served on different matching china sets each day. I also got a full pot of hot tea every morning (with tea cosy) so I was totally good to go (they have coffee also, of course).
Weather permitting, breakfast is served on the deck overlooking the lake. Very romantic!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby (10 or 15 minutes) and Asheville is a little bit further. Black Mountain has a nice restored downtown area...just a few blocks but wonderful shopping for pottery and other artwork. There is even a contemporary handmade jewelry store that is fabulous (Visionsofcreation.com).
This property is not officially "handicapped accessible" but it's very close to being so. (My husband was on crutches at the time of our visit).
I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet, romantic place with a view. From their photo album, it looks like they have even have weddings in the back yard.

Arbor House Bed and Breakfast in Black Mountain, North Carolina, is that rarity we can search for years to find - a haven of peace and tranquility. Carolyn does her utmost to create a soothing atmosphere as you unwind and drink in the stunning mountain and Lake Tomahawk views. She and Dave serve up delicious breakfasts, ensuring I had my favourite home-made pancakes, first with blueberries, then creamy scrambled eggs and sausages.... Guests can make beverages at any time in a small fully equipped kitchen. The bedrooms are all exquisite with pieces chosen by Carolyn and in many cases restored or upholstered by her too. Four days left me feeling pampered and energised. Go any season - the views are sublime from the verandah at any time of the year.

Room Tip: I enjoyed stunning views and the most comfortable bed in the Greybeard room

My wife and I recently stayed in the Graybeard room in the Arbor House. It was our first B&B experience and I am not sure how it can ever be topped. The room was on the bottom floor of the house and right off the kitchen. Next time we are going to try the lookout room on the 2nd floor for a little extra privacy (yes there will be a next time!!!). Graybeard was a very nice room and the bathroom and jaccuzzi were worth every penny. Breakfast was delicious both mornings. Carolyn was incredibly and tastefully helpful in planning our adventures around Black Mountian. It was a wonderful experience and I cannot imagine a better place to stay while visiting the area!

Room Tip: Graybeard is right off the kitchen- may not bother some but my wife and I would have liked a little...
