This is definitely not fast food. It is full slow! So ... got a little time for a great breakfast/lunch? Read on:
My companion and I stopped in on a Sunday morning. You stand on line, and while waiting your turn to place an order, gaze longingly at the yummy foods in the glass deli case. The menu is on a large chalkboard, and descriptions of the food and combos are easy to understand. We ordered, then easily found a seat, despite the fact that the restaurant was very busy. Coffee is self-serve; my companion ordered a delicious local chai that was quickly delivered to the table; drinks in hand, we proceeded to wait ... and wait ...
That said, the food is worth the wait. I'm a big fan of biscuits and gravy, and the giant biscuit was loaded with a wonderful sausage gravy that was close to perfection -- not too salty, not at all gummy despite being a flour-based gravy, just the right amount of sausage and seasoning. My companion ordered a dish that featured smoked trout spread, and she proclaimed it quite delicious. We split an order of Fried Green Tomatoes, which, despite the fact that they were no longer quite green, were lightly breaded and nicely done. I must say, we found that we'd ordered too much food! The "entrees" would have been more than enough.
I'll definitely return to this place. But only when I absolutely have no place that I have to be at a prescribed time. The wait is excusable because it's obvious that the time was spent in lovingly preparing each order. But expect a long wait.
