“A Great Lunch On The RoadI make”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

I make several trips from Chattanooga to Chapel Hill to visit my son..sometimes for grandparent duty. I always stop at Veranda Cafe in Black Mountain. Is is located about half way to my final destination. Their menu is outstanding...many choices of homemade soups as well as sandwiches & salads. Service is very good. Prices are reasonable. When traveling I-40 in this area stop at Veranda Cafe. You will be glad you did.

“Very average”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014

I really don't understand all the rave reviews for Veranda Cafe. I ordered a house salad and shrimp and grits. The salad greens were crisp and fresh. The chipotle ranch dressing tasted like bottled. The shrimp and grits came with a small amount of shredded Gouda on top along with some crumbled bacon. The grits were creamy, but without the tiny bit of Gouda and bacon it was rather tasteless. The shrimp were average. No sauce of any kind was in the bowl. My companion ordered the shrimp and grits also. We both agreed we make a much better shrimp and grits at home. On the upside, the waitstaff were super friendly and helpful. But I still have no desire to return.

“Good place for lunch in town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

We were in town for shopping and antiquing and this place was convenient and the food was very good. I tried the turkey sandwich on cranberry bread with a cup of Brunswick stew. Delicious! Everyone in our group loved their food except the pimento cheese had capers in it and we didn't like that. Everything else was great. We will eat there again.

“Great meal, great value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 17, 2014

This was our first time eating here, but it will not be the last. We had the plate lunch, and it was so good! Pork tenderloin, mashed potatoes and brown buttered green beans. The tea of the day was ginger peach, and it was the best iced tea I've ever had. We had the chocolate raspberry cake which is made in house, and it is to die for. Service was excellent too. As someone else said, it is a little noisy, but it didn't stop us from having a conversation and enjoying our meal. Needless to say, we loved this restaurant and would highly recommend. Sometimes they run out of the specials, so get there early!

“Owners so cordial and food is worth traveling for.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

We had lunch the day after July 4th this year as frequent return customers. We had our usual 'She Crab Soup' and 'Shrimp and Grits' and they are always, like all other food choices, consistently perfect.

Thank you, Jeff, for finding for us the 'very last serving' of the 'Shrimp and Grits' that day when you saw disappointment on our faces that we might have been just a little late day to order it. We are still talking about how rare it is to find such service and compassion - and how you and your service staff accommodated us when it seemed (for a fleeting moment) that having our Veranda's 'Shrimp and Grits' might be 'hopeless'.

Of course, the Cuban Sandwich was also good, as well as the carrot cake!

No one should worry about a waiting line, as it moves fast - given the exceptional attention to the needs of those waiting they give - and it is well worth it!

Lunch at "Veranda's" is one good reason to visit Black Mountain and one reason we do!
