Monte Vista Hotel

If you are visiting Black Mountain, NC and don't want to stay in Ashville and commute this hotel offers a great location to everything in town. It is and older refurbished building with creaky flooring and lots of charm. A little on he pricey side for what you get ($138.75 including tax). The room was clean and available when we arrived a little after twelve noon.

Nice quiet older/refurbished smaler hotel. Breakfast service could be better - a few more option or a few hot buffett options would be acceptale at teh hotels price point. The WiFi service needs improvement - possibly a couple repeaters would do the trick?

Room Tip: Wireless is spotty and not all rooms have TVs. No Elevator.

Monte Vista is a small boutique hotel with a restaurant and bar and interesting decor. The art by local artists is displayed throughout. The staff is accomodating and the rooms are pleasant and minimalist in decor. Continental breakfast is provided as are small fridges on each floor. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel does a good business in wedding events, but this in no way interfered with our stay.

The Monte Vista has been a favorite of mine for years. I discovered it maybe 10 years ago. I loved the relaxed feel of the place and it felt as if you stepped back in time. Over the years however the hotel began to get a little run down. I was so upset to hear that it had closed a couple of years back. Now I am so happy that it has reopened with new owners and has been totally refurbished. I love reading on the porches, walking around Black Mountain and the fact that there a no TV's in the rooms. The dinner we had at the Palate in the hotel was so delicious. The NY strip melts in your mouth. The continental breakfast is just enough. There are plenty of coffee shops within walking distance if you need something more. Sue and Barney have done a wonderful job bringing new life to a wonderful piece of history. Sue and Barney, thank you for taking such good care of our Monte Vista!

My family has stayed at the Monte Vista hotel each of the last two years around drop off and pick up from a nearby summer camp. Barney and Sue are wonderfully hospitable and the accommodations were a welcome site after a long road trip. The hotel lobby was a great place to read and joy a local draft beer and the restaurant had a variety of healthy choices. We've enjoyed making this hotel a part of our summer camp tradition and look forward to another visit in 2014.

An early August wedding at the Monte Vista was picture perfect - as was the weather. Friends and family occupied the entire facility (an over-sized B+B) which meant that short and long visits on the porch or the patio, the living room or at the bar were available all day and evening. The rooms are simple but comfortable, gallery on the main floor features interesting work and seasonal openings with music, and for the wedding itself there were plenty of sites for every preference: indoors, outdoors, near the music for dancing, away on the porch for quiet conversation. The well-versed and multi-talented hosts and their staff provided a warm welcome and good advice.

Weekend Farmer's Market, great food options and an extraordinary Quilt Store made Black Mountain an ideal place to stay; Asheville, Southeast Craft Center, Biltmore Estate are a mere 20 minutes away. I will definitely return even if there is no wedding to draw me there!

Room Tip: No twin-bed rooms; no TVs. Each room (in the main building) is charming and slightly different. Di...

Loved this beautiful hotel in Black Mountain and would stay there again. Close to local galleries, restaurants, bars and shops, the hotel is a perfect and reasonably priced place to stay.

Hardwood floors throughout, with original local art work, music in the evenings and food served in a big open space on the first floor. Lovely outside courtyard with seating.

The rooms are simple but beautiful with wood furniture and art. No televisions in the rooms--great for me, although husband wasn't thrilled. You will hear folks coming down the halls and downstairs from inside of your room, but it seems that quiet guests stay here.

Bathrooms have black and white tile. Our only disappointment was that the first room and bathroom were far from clean. We asked for a new room & it was ready for us when we came back from dinner and shopping.
