This resort is very outdated. They could use some seating near the bottom of the main hill, not over past the beginners area. The signage to bathroom facilities was severely lacking too. That said, if they'd groom the slopes occasionally there are several nice ski runs. I think they aren't very motivated to upgrade because there aren't many options for skiing in the southeast.

My sons and I recently drove to Beech Mountain for a day of skiing and had a great time! My very first ski trip ever in the '80s was at Beech Mountain and it has hardly changed since those days. That is both good and bad. We had great conditions and so the mountain was in perfect shape for North Carolina....no ice and packed powder. The staff are friendly and the whole place is just fairly low key, which I appreciate. We drove right up to facilities to park, which is very convenient.

On the down side, the facilities are in major need of an upfit. Everything just feels old. Had to sit on the floor in the dining facilities and the sanitation grade was B (pretty disgusting).

In terms of the slopes, there aren't any double blacks and the single blacks would be blue or double blues at most resorts, but fun can be had by all recreational skiiers. The one drawback to the design is that the Green slopes are just the bottom part of the blue and black slopes, so there is chaos on a busy day at the bottom of the mountain. If a big investment is ever made here, I would work to create more separation for new skiiers from the more experienced.

beech is a very old place at this point. it opened in the late 60s and it is showing its age. the facilities seem a little run down, and could use some renovations, but they arent dingy or falling apart. the layout can be confusing and frustrating at times as well, requiring you to walk all over and climb numerous flights of stairs between buying lift tickets and renting skiis, getting to the restrooms, etc. that being said they do have faster lifts than sugar, they are usually less crowded, a little cheaper, and have been making improvements. the umbrella bar at the top is a nice touch, as well as the taproom for their newly opened brewery, as well as the investment in new snowmaking equipment so they can keep open more slopes than in years past. although on my trip last week there were quite a few icy patches, going down robbins run was nearly impossible due to falling on all the ice, i gave up on that slope after one run. so, beech is a nice alternative to sugar, it would just be nice if there were less ice.

Visiting the area Christmas break, most ski resorts were closed. I called Beech, the fourth on my list. They were to open late, 1pm. We had 7 kids and 4 adults, too small for a "Group" (15), but I asked anyway. "Hold on" said "Tereasa", she came back and offerred an incredible package for all! We were instructed to arrive at 12:30. All was set and ready, rental, lift ticket, instructions and a food voucher for lunch! ALL the staff was friendly, helpful, excited and glad to see us! Remember it's Christmas day! Instructions were great, manmade snow mostly, but fine, sunny day, All had a BLAST! Cafeteria was clean, food was excellent (Burgers, Chicken nuggets, chili, fries, etc.) The kids did NOT want to leave, despite the cold! Nice place.
