Description: City Kitchen is a Waterfront Restaurant with approachable American Cuisine that is kicked up a notch. Just like our great country, the chef draws from our diverse ethnic mix, with Southern, Asian, Hispanic and other influences. City Kitchen's cuisine is imaginative yet familiar. We are an unpretentious restaurant, with an inviting decor and awesome food! (Our desserts are pretty darn tasty too!) Dinner Wed- Sat 5:30pm-until We also have a Waterfront-open air bar that is open in Season on Fri and Sat evenings. Call for hours as this is weather dependent.

We had the privilege of being one of the first diners in the new location at the Beaufort marina overlooking the water. The upstairs restaurant has always had spectacular views but never had such excellent food as we experienced during our visit. We 4 diners all had different entrees, including fresh mahi, shrimp and grits, beef, and pasta with bolognese sauce. My mahi was absolutely fresh and perfectly cooked. One dining companion had the pasta and said it was as good as what she had experienced in Italy. We also had the Thai meatballs which were spicy and superb. We shared a few desserts and all were very tasty and disappeared quickly.
The view from the upper porch was glorious during sunset.
The only complaint we had was that the noise level inside was far too loud(from other diners and also the wind rushing in on us every time a server opened the door) to have a conversation. We asked and were moved outside where it was quiet and peaceful.
The servers had a few missteps but this was the opening weekend and I expect things will improve in that area as they gain experience in the new location.
I highly recommend City Kitchen for its stellar food and view. We will be returning often as we live locally.

Beaufort dining is a bit of a conundrum, one would think the community has the right demographics to support a truly fine dining experience. Over the years some great restaurants have come and gone, and others have soared but then settled back into a predictable good to very good level. The chef/owners of City Kitchen are not new to the Crystal Coast dining scene. They've been responsible for some of the best dinning in Beaufort in the past and now they are back in a great location. The City Kitchen was previously in Morehead where it established an enthusiastic following. The food at the new location is as exceptional as at the previous, and the views and ambience are now almost as exceptional as the food.

Our group of four shared two appetizers: the roasted Thai meatballs and a burrata caprese that were both excellent. Fine renditions of shrimp and grits and beef tournedos with duck fat fires, both outstanding, followed. A deliciously fresh and well seasoned mahi mahi was one of the star entrees, along with a surprisingly outstanding duck bolognaise. Although given a french spelling on the menu, the duck ragu sauce was blissfully reminiscent of an Emilia-Romagna concoction with balanced meat and vegetable flavors melded with some dairy and only a light tomato touch. Italian purists might balk at the substitution of duck for beef or pork and prefer a flatter pasta like tagliatelle or pappardelle, but we found the result exceptional and memorable. We shared three deserts and all were delightful.
Value and volume diners may, as they have for the Morehead location, complain that serving sizes are small. It all depends on what one seeks. We love to eat but prefer quality over quantity and manage to avoid being overweight by exercise and portion control. This is not the right choice for diners looking for for large amounts of food and inexpensive prices. But it is perfect for us, fairly priced, and hopefully will suit Beaufort. We four had two appetizers, four entrees, three deserts and two bottles of wine. With tax and 20% tip our bill came to under $270.
There are a few glitches in the new location to be worked out. The deck provides a delightful outdoor dining option but access through a door in the middle of the indoor dining room can be a problem. The door faces the water and late afternoon and early evening breezes from offshore can create a wind tunnel effect when servers use this door to move from the kitchen to the outdoor dining area. To avoid the distracting wind blast we asked to move from a table by the door and were readily accomodated. There appears to be a mixed complement of experienced staff from the old location and new personnel, so there were a few bumps, but not enough to detract from an overall special meal. We wish this venture every success and look forward to returning frequently.

The new location is wonderful with many of the same people and delicious food. The views are spectacular and the dining area has a similar feel to the old city kitchen in Morehead. We had a variety of entrees and one appetizer. The baked oysters were some of the best we've had. The Mahi special was delicious and seasoned properly. Shrimp and grits and crab cakes were excellent too. We will be a frequent guest. There are some really neat things with the bar and outside eating area going on. Best of luck!!!

The restaurant had a cancellation and we went. We had curry grouper with rise and agrula. The service was excellant, and the chochlate brownie to die for. My only complaint was the hugh portion size. If in Morehead City go. Closing for winter so watch out, and get reservations.

We ate at the City Kitchen last July for our 25th anniversary. Our server was nice enough, food was good but sparse and over- price compared to the rest of the area. The other patrons were so loud we could hardly hear each other because the tables were very close together.
I would recommend Floyds or Blue Moon in Beaufort instead. The Chelsea in New Bern is also always excellent. We should have stuck to our old favorites. I am usually easy to please. I guess I had my hopes up after reading the other reviews.
