I usually don't spend time in grave yards but I have to say this one was very interesting. It have head stones that I saw dating back into the early 1800's. It is open to the public with no admission cost. It would be a pretty spooky place after dark with all the low growing trees and vines. It looks just like the pictures show. Some folks had guided tours but we just wandered through. A different way to spend an hour or so.

This was one of the most unique burying grounds that I have ever seen. New Orleans has some neat ones too!..But .I just found this interesting. Maybe it's because I am from the area and enjoyed the history but I would say it is worth the trip!

Who doesn't love a good scare? The Beaufort Burying Ground is awesome during the day, scary spooky at night. Throughout the fall, evening walks are offered through the burial ground, but be advised, it is spooky. Employees dress in period clothing, pirates abound. The place is even spooky during the day. The tombstones are OLD, and the place is said to be haunted. I believe them!!! Great place to visit.

This is one of the great historic landmarks in NC. The grave of Otway Burns, War of 1812 hero and captain of the Snap Dragon, is found here among many other notable North Carolinians.

Pick up the walking tour pamphlet at the Historic District building down the road so you can read the interesting narrative. Some of the markers are incredibly old and delicate so take care not to lean up against any. Rubbings are not allowed but the Cotter Hurst Art Gallery in the Old Seaport Inn, 217 Turner St, has a couple already framed.
