I liked the price (FREE) and going up on the observations (private guide) and seeing the sites from the widow's watch. Go in the morning to avoid the school tours.
and visit across the street the wood working shop for building boats.

You get a feel for the local history. Has one of the largest nautical book collections I have seen. Staff is friendly. On the day we arrived, they showed an hour and a half National Geographic movie about Black Beard. What a disgusting figure of history was he. Souvenirs seemed reasonably priced as well.

This was a very interesting museum. You learned a lot of local history. It was displayed great & clean. We learned about Blackbeard, Queen Ann"s Revenge. We were here q few years ago & they expanded it a lot. We spent more time there than we thought. There were interactive videos there & lost to read. Would definitely recommend this.

Free to get in, and a very impressive survey of local history. Featured are the Queen Anne's Revenge exhibit, the shipwreck rescue exhibit, one on both whaling and fishing. One of the main draws is the shipbuilding shop across the street. Every year they have a raffle of one of the ships from the shop, last year a wooden motor boat, this year a sailing dinghy. Good information, nice exhibits.

It is free to get in. They don't allow flash photography, which is understandable. It was a very neat place. Some of the touch screen computers weren't working to see more on the artifacts and they were having some maintenance issues so there was a stinch from the rotten water. But overall nifty place. They offer lots of children activities as well.
