How can you beat a free museum right in the midst of the restaurants & shops? The museum had artifacts from Blackbeard's ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, as well as a great section describing fishing equipment & tactics over the years. There was also a little table with seashells, so that you can identify the shells you have found (or want to find). Cute old-fashioned museum. I appreciate that they didn't overdo videos, as modern museums tend to.

Gave us some real knowledge of the maritime industry, business and shipping in the area, good authentic documents and visuals to look at... Free to visit, worth the look!

A couple of storms ran us off the water, so we ducked into the museum. Quaint and easily completed in a couple of hours. Informative and friendly staff. I especially liked the North and South Carolina shell collections abd Blackbeard and the pirate section. Great displays. Kids will love it, especially since it does not take a long time to go through.

This great little museum. The section devoted to Blackbeard and pirates was particularly interesting. I am a model builder so I loved the ship models and dioramas. The library room in the back looks just how a library should- lots of big wooden book shelves filled with books and comfy places to sit to enjoy the read.
And it's free admission.

We went to see Queen Ann's Revenge but really spent way more time learning some cool locale history. I particularly like the art of boat building. I must refrain from building my own! Make sure you visit the actual boat building shed across the street.
