This museum is small, but well done. There is no admission fee, but donations are excepted.

The museum has so must information on the history of the NC Coast. The lighthouse and lifesaving methods used are very interesting. We spent about 1 1/2 hours, but they started showing a film on Black Beard while we were there. It lasted almost an hour and we had not planned on seeing it or thought it would be that long. It was interesting. A walk through the museum should only be about an hour. We had plans and had to speed though it, due to the movie.

It was neat seeing the movie and then going to see some of the artifacts from Black Beard's ship. The movie showed how they were recovered and what their purpose may have been, so the movie actually did complement the experience.

There is something for everyone and being that it is free and self guided, you need to stop by when you are in the area.

Great Museum with wonderful exhibits for all ages including a new one containing artifacts recovered from the wreck of the Queen Anne's Revenge (Blackbeard's flag-ship). Great programming and best of all - its free! Make sure to visit the boat shop across the street if its open!

More artifacts from the Queen Anne's Revenge than our last visit 2 years ago. As a Coast Guardsman's mother, I loved the exhibit about its beginnings.
