The NCMM is a wonderful way to learn about the sea and pirates in this area. We have been visiting the area for 10 years and have watched as this museum has grown.

“Interesting”

If you are interested in boating from the past and seeing antiques this s a good place to go. Even our grandchildren enjoyed it because they give the children a map and the do a scavenger hunt to find what is on the map. Makes them take their time in looking at everything that there is to see there.

This is a great litte museum quite aside from being free. The exhibits change enough that we stop in on every trip. Tey also sponsor side events that can be most interesting.

“Maritime Treasure in the Most Charming Town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012

The NC Maritime Museum is a definite don't miss, when you are visiting the Beaufort/Marehead City, Atlantic Beach area. It's FREE, that's right free, and will keep you fascinated for hours. It's all about the maritime history, culture, and natural sciences of coastal North Carolina. Countless historic objects in the permanent collection, and frequently changing current exhibits.

Claim to fame: this is the official repository of artifacts from the Queen Anne's Revenge, the flagship of the infamous Pirate Blackbeard. He grounded the ship in 1718 just off the coast from Beaufort. The artifacts that have been recovered are fascinating: from sewing pins to cannons, and the exhibit is well-done.

Make sure the kids try the Sea Hunt, which will keep them happily occupied while you visit. Older kids:? Ask for a more challenging version of the sea hunt.

The Museum also sponsors frequent programs and outings in and away from the Museum. The Watercraft Center is across the street and also open to the public, where you can watch traditional wooden boats while under construction.

People visit this museum over and over, and they love it every time!

Great way to spend an hour or so....especially on a rainy day! Take time to read and listen to recorded displays!
