This modest museum was a real treasure. Chock full of information and artifacts, many donated by NC residents. It is free although we made the recommended donation of $5. Manned mostly by friendly, local retired people on the Monday we were there.

Last year they opened the Blackbeard exhibit - authentic artifacts from the actual Queen Anne's Revenge which evidently was discovered in 2003 under only 25 feet of water.

The kids loved it and we spent almost 2 hours there. Also well stocked gift shop, prices were reasonable since sales benefit the museum.

Educational and fun.

Not much in this wold is still free, but this is. I enjoyed the museum and its new Black Beard display. It is a nice way to spend an hour or so to learn about the area and its history.

Beaufort's Maritime Museum Offers something for everyone in the family. Although it is not large in floor area, it has enough in it to keep you occupied for 1 to 2 hours, depending upon how much time you spend at each exhibit. A fair amount of space is devoted to the history of local commercial fishing in this area also. There is also the Queen Anne's Revenge pirate ship displays which are quite informative and are the latest additions to the museum. A gift shop complements the museum, with stuff for everyone. Parking is usually available on museum property or on a side street. Since it is adjacent to the Beaufort waterfront, one can see both the museum and waterfront areas easily in 1/2 day.
