Hawk and Ivy B&B Retreat

Reviewed June 9, 2014

Our children bought us a two night stay and Hawk and Ivy, so for our anniversary we booked the weekend. We were met by James and later met Eve, both very charming and knowledgeable about the area. Breakfast was at 9:00 AM and meals were delightful and not what I expected, all are healthy and most items locally grown. We had three couples there and the meal was enjoyable along with the conversation and exchanging stories. James and Eve can always give you great ideas on sites to see and travel the area for wonderful adventures. The grounds are very well maintained and flowers at every turn. The family dog was our tour guide and seemed to enjoy leading you around the property. Rooms are good size and very clean, serviced daily.

They also do weddings here and have an area on the mountain just behind your lodging that is a marvelous view. It's almost like time stops and you have no worries just walking around the property. I was pleasently surprised and would recommend this to families looking for a get away unlike they have ever had.

I took photo's buy saw what I would submit on another review.

Room Tip: Follow your GPS and will take you to the entry drive.

We chose to stay at Hawk and Ivy for our anniversary get-away to Asheville primarily because of the proprietors' commitment to meet specific dietary requirements of their guests. In our case, my wife is GF, and James and Eve made certain that each breakfast was not only stunningly presented, absolutely delicious and bounteous enough to get us through to dinner if we chose to skip lunch during our day trips, but GF as well. James' GF waffles are sinfully light and tasty - I teased him that if they hadn't been topped with apples and sour cream they would have floated clean off the plate! And given James' and Eve's intellectual and cultural interests, breakfast conversation was just as satisfying as the breakfast itself. We stayed in the very cozy 2nd floor suite in the Guest Cottage, and availed ourselves of the kitchen accommodations so I could fix a GF pizza for our Friday "date night" of pizza and a movie. Our 5-day stay went all too fast, and we look forward to visiting in the summer, when we can enjoy the splendor of Eve's garden. Hawk and Ivy is what a first-class B&B should be!

Asheville and the Hawk and Ivy were our first experience of Carolina. And we loved it.
James and Eve could not have been more thoughtful, kind and friendly. Breakfast was something to look forward to every morning, imaginative and delicious. Our little cottage appartment was warm and comfortable and our pre-breakfast and evening walks around the estate with Gareth, the official guide dog who lead the way, were marvelous.
The place is a lot for James and Eve to look after, though they clearly love it - and we hope they will continue - at least long enough for us to return one day!

Room Tip: Inside the house if you're not 100% sure footed especially out of summer.

My sister and I stayed at Hawk and Ivy for a week in October 2013. The grounds are beautiful and just a short and pretty drive from the vibrant city of Asheville. It was the owners Eve and James that made our stay magical. Each morning over our delightful breakfast they helped us plan our day. Each recommendation they made based on what interested us was fabulous. There are many places to stay if you are planning a trip to the area but trust the reviews on this B and B. I am so glad we did and chose to spend our week here. It was unforgettable

Room Tip: We stayed in the two bedroom suite on the main floor. The upper unit was really nice too. The deck o...

We've stayed at Hawk and Ivy several times since 2007. Each visit has been a special experience--from the beautiful flowers in our room, to the half and half for our morning coffee in the fridge--James and Eve have thought of every detail. They have created a truly special place. The breakfast is not only beautiful but also delicious. The grounds at the Hawk and Ivy are a sight to behold. It will make you never want to leave.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay two nights at the Hawk & Ivy while visiting our son. Eve and James are great hosts--you feel as if you are in the home of relatives that you REALLY like to visit. Our room, in the main house, was very comfortable, exceptionally clean, with fresh flowers to welcome us. Breakfast is fresh, organic, and tastes wonderful. The grounds and garden are beautiful--Eve is an award winning gardener--and worth trekking around the property to take in the views. The B&B is located about a mile from a fantastic canopy adventure outfitter, Navitat, so the location can't be beat. It is also a quick drive to several great restaurants and into Asheville as well. After full days of activity, it was a pleasure to return to the comfort of the inn. We will definitely be back and will be sure to build in plenty of time to do nothing but relax at this serene retreat.
