Hawk and Ivy B&B Retreat
GreenLeadersSilver level
Reviewed July 29, 2013

We've stayed at Hawk and Ivy several times since 2007. Each visit has been a special experience--from the beautiful flowers in our room, to the half and half for our morning coffee in the fridge--James and Eve have thought of every detail. They have created a truly special place. The breakfast is not only beautiful but also delicious. The grounds at the Hawk and Ivy are a sight to behold. It will make you never want to leave.

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay two nights at the Hawk & Ivy while visiting our son. Eve and James are great hosts--you feel as if you are in the home of relatives that you REALLY like to visit. Our room, in the main house, was very comfortable, exceptionally clean, with fresh flowers to welcome us. Breakfast is fresh, organic, and tastes wonderful. The grounds and garden are beautiful--Eve is an award winning gardener--and worth trekking around the property to take in the views. The B&B is located about a mile from a fantastic canopy adventure outfitter, Navitat, so the location can't be beat. It is also a quick drive to several great restaurants and into Asheville as well. After full days of activity, it was a pleasure to return to the comfort of the inn. We will definitely be back and will be sure to build in plenty of time to do nothing but relax at this serene retreat.

The accommodations were very nice, breakfast was outstanding and the inn keepers very knowledgable about the area. All of their food recommendations were excellent. Would definitely stay here should I return to Asheville!

My husband and I were able to make last minute reservations to stay at the Hawk and Ivy as a stop-over en route to our true destination further north...about 300 miles further north actually. We were so happy and relaxed, and frankly in awe of the natural beauty, with staying here that we cancelled the remainder of our trip in favor of just staying at the Hawk and Ivy for the remainder of our vacation! It was such a respite from the rest of the world and our overly busy lives. I think it was the first vacation we have ever been on that we actually just rested and relaxed. Words cannot describe just how beautiful and immense the garden is that Eve tends lovingly. And James is just a joy to have breakfast with...such a wonderful sense of humor. It reminded us of staying in a villa in the countryside in Italy. Actually had time to read and paint, go for walks and a picnic by the pond. It's not super-fancy/shmancy, just comfortable and more than adequate. We loved it and felt very much at home.

Room Tip: The upstairs of the cottage is definitely the way to go. Privacy. Living room and small kitchen...

We just got back from 5 nights in Hawk and Ivey. We stayed in the first floor cottage which was very clean, had a kitchen and a deck with the view of the mountains. Both James and Eve were wonderful hosts and breakfast was superb every morning. They even went through a lot of trouble to accomodate my son's allergies by making delicious pancakes and waffles made from corn and rice flour. My boys enjoyed running around the grounds, playing in the barn and most of all playing soccer with Nell (the very friendly dog). This is definitely a vacation that we would want to repeat.

I took my mom to the Hawk and Ivy for a Mother's day weekend getaway in May 2010. (been meaning to do a review!) When I found this B&B online, the main draw for me was the mountain scenery/retreat type feel and the organic food offerings. Eve and James (owners of the Hawk and Ivy) are truly delightful people. Sweet, welcoming and inspiring. Meeting & spending time with them was such a great part of our stay.
The property is beautiful- Eve's garden is magical. James has poetry scattered throughout, which brings a lovely personal touch. The scenery and landscape is also quite alluring. The breakfast every morning was absolutely stunning- Eve is an amazing cook, and very inspiring to watch her create such delightful meals. (plus seriously tasty!) We stayed in the cottage outside of the main house- (the downstairs 2 bedroom) it was sweet and the beds were comfortable. Over all, we had a great stay. You won't be disappointed when you give this B&B a try!!

My weekend stay at the Hawk & Ivy Bed & Breakfast was a quaint and old-fashioned experience of country sided hospitality. Staying in the Hawk & Ivy guest cottage surrounded by cozy furnishings, family antiques, and original paintings felt charming and pleasant. I especially want to compliment James and Eve on their delicious gourmet breakfasts thoughtfully prepared and their enjoyable morning conversations. The picturesque gardens surrounding the Hawk & Ivy are beautiful and makes the accommodations especially welcoming and appealing.
