Top ten reasons not to eat at the Bayou Smokehouse & Grill

#1. You have to walk through a smoke filled bar to the dining porch.
#2. Once at your table you can still smell the smoke from the bar.
#3. From your table you can hear the crude "idle chatter" coming from the bar patrons.
#4. Your waitress takes a smoke break within sight of you.
#5. Your handed a dirty "gummy feeling" menu.
#6. Your waitress is annoyed when you don't order drinks from the bar.
#7. Your food arrives luke warm.
#8. You almost die of thirst before you get an iced tea re-fill. (see #6 above.)
#9. Only authentic cajun thing about your meal is the bottle of hot sauce on the table.
#10. YOU HAVE TO WALK THROUGH A SMOKE FILLED BAR TO EXIT.

Dined again last night on a Memorial Day weekend trip to the mountains. We just love this place. .. fun, funky, great food (dinner order: beef bbq, gumbo, voodoo pasta, fried shrimp, shrimp remoulade, pecan trout) in a very casual atmosphere. You want an unpretentious locals hang-out, this is the place - and the quality of the food always surprises. Also like mixing my own six pack of craft beer from their store in the back of the restaurant.

I really like southern Louisiana food. I wish there was a place to get good food like that but the Bayou doesn't do it well. I really get the impression that their serving food is just a necessity to have the bar. I try to eat there once every couple of months or so and I am disappointed everytime. I won't go into detail but everything I order seems to have been sitting around for a long time or way over cooked. I must say that the Bayou would be my last choice in dining in Banner Elk...... UNLESS....

The Bayou will cook late into the evening after the other places stop and the bar scene is probably the best in town. Whether you go alone or with a group, the bayou is fun and if its late and you have had a few, I guess you could find something on the menu to eat. Actally, the BLFGT is pretty good. (It has fried green tomato)

This is one of the greatest restaurants I have ever been to. I loved the food and the atmosphere was fantastic. The service was some of the best I have ever had. Even though the restaurant was slam full the food still came out fast. There is a large bar area which does allow smoking but there is also a non- smoking dining room. There are crayons and other toys for the children to play with while waiting. It is always good to keep the little ones occupied. For the quality of the food one could not beat the prices. A huge 8 ounce hamburger fully dressed with anything you can think of is only 8 dollars. Also I know on Thursday nights is all you can eat ribs for only 11 dollars. That is a deal that one can not pass up plus the meat just falls off the bone. If one happens to be a beer or wine drinker than that is just an extra bonus. They have 2 full pages of beer and wine alone. I give this place an A++ and will certainly go back on my next visit to Banner Elk. I hope if you all make a trip you will visit because it is certainly a place one should not miss out on.

If you don't mind taking your kids to a room of smoke and the regular use of "f...bombs" from the customers and staff then it is a good place to eat. Food is great....atmosphere has a lot to be desired!
