Upon arrival we were greeted by the staff, quickly checked in and escorted to our room. (The Beech in Hawk's View). While the room was plenty large the cleanliness was unsatisfactory, especially the bathroom. The towels were not freshly laundered, the shower water supply shut off completely (for just a minute or so while showering) on 2 occasions and the entire bathroom needed a good cleaning.
Moving on to the view. I've stayed in several mountain inns from Banner Elk and Blowing Rock to Murphy, NC and I was a bit disappointed that the view was that of power lines and a partial mountain view while listening to the bustle of loud traffic moving up and down the mountain. This visit was planned for a couple of days of peaceful relaxation and that was simply not available. Secondly, if you are looking for privacy once your door closes, think again. The walls are very thin and the conversations of the neighbors could be heard without effort.
Now for the food. While we were being escorted to our room, I inquired if there were any really good places to go for breakfast. I was informed that since the breakfast was included in our stay that there was really no reason to go elsewhere. Well here is a reason. That was the worst breakfast I have ever been served. There is no need to go into detail as I don't have enough time to describe the experience except to say the food was horrible. Service was fine.
Dinner a Jackalopes was average for food quality and poor for value. The shrimp grits are some of the best I've had, the mac and cheese, poached asparagus and mashed potatoes were all good but my entree was average at best. I had the mixed grill of quail and antelope and my wife had the beef medallions. The quail was dry only to be saved by the sauce and the antelope was tasteless. My wife did enjoye her beef medallions and liked her dinner overall.
We decided to check out a day early and try something different.
