Wonderful stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 29, 2019
We just got back from a week long vacation and had an absolutely wonderful time, the location is great with beautiful views from our balconies. The staff was friendly and grounds were well kept. Cant wait to book next year again!

Really wished the would have updated the carpets when they remodeled. Or at least cleaned them. However we can not complain about the rest of the updates in our unit. The 2 bedroom plus loft had tons of room for 2 adults and 3 young children. Many things to do locally. Pool was nice and not overly crowded when we stayed. Playground could use some improvements.

Highlands at Sugar is an older resort with outstanding views both long range and overlooking Grandfather Mountain. They are now undergoing a renovation with new kitchens and bathrooms and I can see a vast improvement over my last visit. The staff is outstanding with ready information about the area. There are many activities and it is a very kid friendly resort.

Needs some updating, carpets old and with no air conditioning there was a weird smell until it aired out some. They did tell us there wasn’t any air conditioner and they did supply two fans, but when it’s closed up while you gone the smell returns. Also they have a huge tub with jets but the hot water didn’t last to get it filled up good. Stove had burner out and one had burnt stuff that smoked when you turned on the burner. I’m sure it was very nice previously and it could be again with some work.

family gathering vacation. Great customer service, Nice amenities that included hot tub, board games, movies and novels. They are in the middle of renovations and we wer elucky to be the fist ones to check into a newly renovated unit. Work was almost done but cleaning crew could do better job of dusting and ensuring washer/dryer not to have spare nuts, bolts and wood pieces. Shower in the top floor is miserable. Barely get water for shower. Complained twice but no fix was provided. Downstairs shower was fine. Can't beat the views from the balconies. Good place to stay if you get new units. Old units are filthy and bad.

Room tip: Choose rooms at higher elevation. they have good veiews and are renovated. 106 or 103

Needs an overall update of appliances, flooring and follow-up on maintenance requests. Jacuzzi was not usable until jets were cleaned 3 times. Beautiful setting in an increasingly run down resort. Could be so much more! Got the feeling that maintenance was doing bare minimum and ignoring real problems, to be passed on to subsequent guests.

Room tip: Ask for extra fans to keep unit cool when extra hot in summer. Be persistent with maintenance requests.
