“Lots of problems”
Reviewed May 19, 2007

We had a Sunday to Sunday reservation, but left on Tuesday AM due to dissatisfaction with our unit. We stayed in 10 B and found it to be much in need of a good cleaning and updating, or at least painting - the walls were marked and dirty and it had a musty smell, several of the windows wouldn't open, the curtains were dirty...going out to the
balcony to escape the room we found little plastic chairs, a busy, noisy highway, and a backhoe working on the area just below (loading a dump truck) all day long - no escape there! We had to pay for 2 more nights at a hotel in Asheville to do our sightseeing...we usually do a beach vacation, but decided it was time to try the mountains. The mountains were beautiful but the Blue Ridge Village was not! There was no curiosity from the desk clerk when we checked out so early, such as asking "is there a problem with your unit?" We'll never go there, or to a Fairfield time share, again.

We had a classic family mountain vacation. After several family trips to the beach we decided to do the mountain thing. BRV is centrally located to a lot of great hiking (Grandfather Mountain), rafting (Nolichucky River, TN), caving and all things outdoors. The accommodations were very good, but just short of excellent. They were more than adequate. Our two bedroom was spacious and stocked well. The staff were very friendly. As a northerner, I absolutely love southern hospitality! The pond did not dissappoint either. My son caught several keepers. His largest was an 18 inch rainbow trout. The pool, sauna and hottub were nice perks at the end of a long day hiking and/or rafting. I was a little dissappointed with the fitness facilities (a universal machine, a treadmill and a bike). It sufficed, however, because for the most part, only my wife and I used it. My biggest dissappointment was with the other tenants, they did not clean up after themselves. They left their towels everywhere and didn't put anything back where they found it.

Due to BRV not allowing pets, we used their recommendation for a "kennel". Aunt Sis' (just around the corner from BRV) is anything but your usual kennel. It is more like camp for dogs. You won't regret bringing your dog. Most of the hiking trails allow dogs so picking'em up and dropping'em off is actually encouraged by Aunt Sis.

Overall, I recommend BRV and Banner Elk to anyone looking for a mountain getaway with all the amenities.
