“Wonderful Vacation in the Mountains”
Reviewed July 21, 2009

We stayed at the Blue Ridge Village Resort from July 12-19,2009. The resort really
had everything we needed to make a great vacation. Especially the location, we
were close to several of the local adventures in the area. We went to the Grandfather
Mountain and walked across the mile-high swinging bridge(the views were spectacular
of the Blue Ridge Mts.) the super cute bears really were fun to watch. We made a
trip to the Biltmore mansion in Asheville. I tried my luck at gem mining which was a
great experience I came home with sapphire, emerald, tourmaline and amethyst and
other gems. I enjoyed shopping the Tanger Outlet in Blowing Rock. The resort
had some great activities for all ages. I would go back to this area not enough time to
do everything in the mountains.

My roommate and I just graduated college and her parents invited me to go on their family vacation with them to their timeshare at Blue Ridge Village. So it was two 22 year olds and 2 adults. I was a bit worried with the mixed reviews here, but I really have no complaints. We had a lovely time. The only negatives, if it can really be called that, is that the decorations in the rooms are extremely outdated and wireless is only available in the poolhouse. But we stayed in a spacious 2 bedroom/2 bathroom suite. One master bedroom had a jacuzzi and the other bedroom had 2 comfortable full size beds along with a full bathroom with incredible water pressure as well as a dryer and washing machine. The kitchen was fully stocked, the tv/dvd/vcr player worked perfectlfy fine. The pool and hot tub were great. The lake area was nice for paddleboating, although not for swimming really. It is close to absolutely everything, restaurants, tourist attractions, stores, homemade jam stands (Yum!) and surrounded by beautiful scenery all around. The staff was extremely helpful in guiding us around the area and deciding what to do and what not to do. I felt very safe as well since you freqently saw the security guards making the rounds. And on the last day, I left a very special ring on my bed and the housekeepers immediately retrieved it for me and mailed it out to me the next day. All in all, this was a lovely place to stay for anyone of any age, and a very peaceful vacation (we stayed at Blue Ridge Village an entire week.) I would definitely return just to get away from the hectiness that accompanies any place outside of Banner Elk!

The unit was brand new and nice but when we were called to attend the sales pitch they said it was only to be 60mins., we planned our day around being back by 2pm for the, as they said "no pressure sales tour" only to go and be told that we had to do 90mins instead of 60mins. They said we needed a tour of the new units, which we were already staying in so they said we needed to reschedule if we wanted to receive any of the gifts. Again, the salesperson that called and confirmed that it was only a 60min tour. We left and wasted all that time and gas to come back for nothing.

Not to mention another couple that have owned there since 1980 were brought in for a tour and were there for 3 hours and were so disrespected that they also left upset.

FESTIVA should really get their act together and either get new sales tactics or new Sales Managers.

I just returned from a week at Blue Ridge Village in Banner Elk and really enjoyed it.
Though my unit was a bit dated, the overall resort was quite a treat and the location just can't be beat. You find yourself in the midst of majestic mountains but yet you have every convenience just a minute or two away. You've got fast food, grocery stores, quality restaurants and all kinds of shopping, whichever direction you turn out of the driveway. But none of this is in your view as that is only of Grandfather & Sugar Mountains. The indoor pool at the clubhouse was relaxing and the trout pond provided me with dinner after just a few minutes one evening. There is a lot of places to go and see, more than I could do in a week. Rafting the Nolichucky and visiting Grandfather Mountain were the highlights though. The layout of the resort makes you feel like your in the Hamptons, I was sad to leave. The staff and the other guests were outgoing and friendly. I plan to be a regular at this underrated gem in this very upscale region of the N. Carolina mountains.

We selected this resort as a timeshare exchange but units can be rented. We didn't know what to expect as we had read mixed reviews on both Tripadvisor and timeshare websites. We had also gotten a letter beforehand warning us of some construction at the resort. We did not see or hear any construction going on so it turned out not to be a problem. We believe though that a lot of the rooms are being remodeled. Our 2 bedroom unit did need some updating (it was not terrible - mostly needed painting), and we understand that the remodeled units are beautiful. Our room was very clean at check-in but we were very disappointed that there was no housekeeping service even once during the week. Most timeshares provide one day of service and the option to pay for additional days.

The check-in was extremely smooth and the office staff was extremely friendly and helpful. What could have been a problem was that there was a sign at check-in saying that the pool would be closed 5 out of the 7 days that we would be there. We don't care much for swimming so that wasn't a problem, but had we been informed earlier, as we had been about the construction, we would not have invited another couple to join us. Luckily, they cancelled out at the last minute, but they would have been miserable without a pool.

The unit was very spacious, although the master bedroom was a little small. There was a whirlpool in the master bath (not ideal for those in the second bedroom). The fireplace was nice as well as the terrace. The location of the room was quiet but not all that convenient to the clubhouse.

The activities, which we don't usually participate in, were better than most timeshares. They offered a free continental breakfast one morning and a free hot dog and marshmellow roast one evening. And to our surprise and delight, there were no timeshare presentations. They had a jewelry making class and several other craft and hiking activities. Wifi is available at the clubhouse and we were told will soon be available in the units. Also at the clubhouse are lots of games that you can check out to your room. Unfortunately it rained everyday so we couldn't make use of the outdoor facilities such as tennis, paddleboats, mini golf, fishing and basketball.

The resort is in a very convenient location. There are 2 supermarkets within a mile and many restaurants within 4 miles. It's near Grandfather Mountain, Blue Ridge Parkway, many hiking trails, Moses Cone Park, and lots of antique stores. Asheville is about an hour and 20 minutes away and a must visit (Biltmore Estate).

All in all, this is a very nice resort, much better than expected.

We rented a 1BR/1BA apartmet in December. The resort accomodations are very old and needs updating. On the second day of our stay there was water leaking from the roof (we were in the ground floor)in the bathroom and living room.We called in the resort caretakers and they told us it was leaking since the people staying upstairs had left the water running. It was disgusting.......
The location, linens, kitchen equipment were good. There is no internet access in the apartments, only at the clubhouse which closes at 8 p.m. So cant use the internet 24/7....Overall our stay was ok...not that great.

Check in was uneventful. We were in a 2 BR (Master upstairs).
The facility could really stand to update the carpet and furniture. I was a bit worn. There was a sunken step in the sitting area with this yellow "crime scene warning tape" to prevent tripping. The 3 TV's were these big analog 19" that produced more snow than Ski Beech.
The remote control gas fireplace was nice.
A couple of the burners on the stove did not work but they fixed it in a timely manner.
About 11:30 pm, we noticed this loud music upstairs. After a while it became intolerable and my husband went next door to ask the tenants to lower the music. When he returned, he said that they were not playing that loud, the walls are so thin, the noise just came right through.
Actually, If you are into the ski and hiking thing, this place is okay.
