Some places in the mountains are too remote and you have to drive on lots of winding roads. Others are too close to main thoroughfares and you barely feel like you're in the mountains. Blue Ridge Village is a happy medium, with a convenient location that puts you close to both Banner Elk and Grandfather Mountain, and not too far from Boone.
We liked this place a lot. There are many pros and not many cons.
On the plus side: Great location, nIce indoor pool, well-maintained mini-golf, lots of corn hole, a lake stocked with trout for fishing, paddle boats, lots of games and activities, spacious renovated units (ours had granite counters, fairly new appliances, a jacuzzi tub and fresh decor) and a somewhat helpful staff.
On the minus side: The shower head in our master bath sucked, our first floor unit was a little dark and the fitness facility only had two cardio machines. Pretty minor, really.
It definitely felt like luxury to us, as we have often stayed in camping cabins when we've been up for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Total thumbs up!
