I really liked Sugar, but if I was headed up there again, I would be more likely to visit Ski Beech.

Went to Sugar Mountain and first off you have to park a good ways away and walk with your ski boots on which kinda sucks then it was insanely busy. You couldn't get into the rental area and when you did they were not helpful or nice. Then when we signed up for a private lesson the people just herded everyone together like cattle then kept ignoring my husband and taking other people then when we were finally given our person she just kept complaining about how she has to be quick because she has a race to get to then in the middle of the lesson she takes a phone call then continues to talk about how she was supposed to be doing a lesson else where. I was just kinda like am I supposed to be like oh sorry you can go to that lesson and I will just let ya keep my $100? Then she wouldn't let my husband go down the hill alone. She kept pulling him with his ski poles and he hated it thus after just 2 times down the very crowded practice hill we ended up packing up and leaving..So much money wasted for an almost hour of 2 runs down a practice hill. I don't think I will be going back to Sugar Mountain anytime soon

We are in the car now, driving back from Banner Elk and our fun 4 days of skiing at Sugar Mountain. Fantastic family trip!
Great staff
Great lockers (bring extra quarters)
Great lifts
Good skiing conditions (unfortunately, Sugar Mountain can't make it snow unless it falls below 32 degrees)
OK good selection (pack lunch if you want more than cafeteria food)
OK parking
Nice ski store
Overall, we Floridians had a great trip and experience at Sugar Mountain! To top it off, we got about 4" of snow yesterday :)

Parking was easy. Slopes are well maintained. Staff is friendly. There is no "lodge". Just a large room with cafeteria style tables that you're not supposed to sit at unless you buy food from the snack bar. We found the food overpriced and not good. The bar upstairs actually has a fireplace and a great view of the slopes. In addition, they sell food up there that is much better than the snack bar. My advise, pack a lunch, slope snacks, beverages, etc. and get a locker. Small lockers are 50 cents, but if you have your own lock you can use one of the larger ones. Check for the mid-week learn to ski special. Free ski or snowboard lesson when you rent equipment and buy your lift ticket. We enjoyed the lesson and were going down the top of the mountain by the end of the first day. Great time!!!
