“Well Preserved Fort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

If you like history, you'll love this Fort. It's well preserved and cared for with many things to see. The volunteers are well versed in the history of the times and enjoy their roles.

“Pleasant Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2012

Took the kids following a trip to Niagara Falls and we all enjoyed it. We were there much longer than expected. You need to pay a parking fee at the entrance to the state park but it is refunded to you when you purchase tickets to the fort. A free tour is included and recommended. The tour guide we had was very knowledgable. Great view of the lake. You can see Ft George (Canada) as well. There is a snack bar inside the fort. A lighthouse provides another opportunity for a view if you feel like walking up those spiral stairs, just beware as the lighthouse closes prior to the fort. The favorite building was the castle where we got a true sense of how the soldiers lived enhanced by audio descriptions. The live musket firing and the blacksmith were also favorites. Be sure the view the original version of the flag that inspired the Star Spangled Banner.

Really interesting guided tour of the fort. Hourly musket shooting demonstrations. One of the best pre-revolutionary era forts to be found in the US.

“Surprised!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

We did not anticipate that this would be as enjoyable as it was. There was a tour that we opted to skip but still enjoyed using our guide pamphlet and reading about each of the 30 or so stops. There were a few places where an audio explanation was offered when you "push the button". The views are spectacular! If we had more time, we would have stayed for the film, musket demonstration and to walk around the beautiful park area surrounding the fort.

“Old Fort Niagara”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Unbelieveable history. Thought we would spend just 1 to 2 hours but ended spending 5 hours taking in all the sites. There is a small cafe within the falls of the fort so you can get a hot dog, hamburger, soda, water and other snacks. There are people throughout the Fort telling you about the history of the Fort, shooting a musket, forging steel, preparing food. Everyone is extremely friendly. Worth the $11.00.
