“What is the deodorizer trying to cover up?”
Reviewed April 19, 2007

I stayed here one night in November 2006. There is lots of glitzy gold and marble as you enter. I found the curving staircase up to check in ostentatious and very inconvenient for bringing in luggage. There is an elevator up way in the back if you need it.
My room reeked of deodorizer, and one had to wonder why. Running the fan and opening the window did not help. I did not want to walk on the carpet with bare feet for fear of what might still be in it. The flocked wallpaper was falling off in places. The bed linens were clean, the pillows terrible. You have to call the front desk to get an outside line. Very limited TV stations.
Complimentary breakfast in the morning was in a huge function room which must have been nice 30 years ago. Offerings were okay, but it's odd to eat in a room with ten people when it could hold 100. Lots of mirrors.
This place needs a total makeover! I would not stay here again!

I booked this whilst over for my brothers wedding as he lived nearby. I felt a bit disconnected from the rest of the party over for the wedding, as we had to get cabs from here to everywhere. Also, I felt the place was very old-fashioned and out of date versus other places I have stayed in. The room was quite large which helped with a family of 5, and was warm enough. I don't like the smell the US AC systems give off though. Was meant to stay a second night, but stayed in the Rye Hilton instead (see my review for comments). I can't go too hard on it though, as a lot of our problems were due to being the only part of the wedding party staying in this hotel, and tiredness from flights.

  • Liked — Nearby Dunkin Donuts & the nice Pool with exotic fish in reception area.
  • Disliked — Old style decor and AC smell
  • Tips/Secrets — Check proximity to where you plan to visit.

We had reservations at The Royal Regency to attend a wedding near by. It is conveniently located right off Hwy 87.That is the only positive thing I can say. The hotel is old, dirty, and in need of repair. The waterfall koi pond in the lobby entance is stagnant and mildewed with swarms of gnats flying all over you as you ascend the stairs to the second floor check in lobby. The hotel reeks of a badly flooded, mildewed basement. Our "queen bed double" was in terrible condition. Filthy carpets, peeling paint. No closet for clothing, just an exposed rod hung by a second door in the room that connects to an exterior walkway. The door did not feel safe and the walkway was right above a narrow parking lot at a busy intersection.(All rooms that are not suites are identical with this exterior door) There were no chairs to sit on. The bed linens are old and worn and dirty. Bathroom fixtures are falling off the walls, and the room needed painting. As soon as you opened the door to the room, 12 inches away was a small sink with a cracked mirror. Beside that was the bathroom with old tub and an industrial toilet. We tried to find other accomadations in the area and everything was booked solid. Going back to the check in desk we inquired if there were any other rooms. Suites were available. They were bigger but in just as deplorable condition. The upholstered furniture was stained, torn and smelly. Not only in our room but in the hotel lobby and corridors. Our suite bedsheets were threadbare, pillows are old foam and no extra pillows are available. This was the worst hotel and the dirtiest I have ever seen in my years of traveling. There is no fire plan posted and in the middle of the night alarms went off. The hotel also has a neon glowing sign on the many low roofs that shines and blinks into the
rooms at night. The airconditioning is old window units that drip and blow the curtains.
There is also insufficient lighting in the rooms at night. We cut our trip short and left as soon as possible.

For what it is...it is awesome. Very clean large rooms. Great Location 15 minutes from Manhattan. Great lobby. The suites are amazing. I travel to westchester a lot and I will only go to the RRH.
