They've been doing alot of renovations and the place looks a lot better. The trails have been cleared from Sandy damage and it seems like new ones have been added.

We were visiting our daughter in Hartsdale, and she found this garden online. It is absolutely gorgeous! Yes there are parts that are in disrepair (which is a pity) but there is so much beauty still there it is worth it. The Walled garden reminded me a bit of Alhambra Palace in Granada Spain, but was based on the Garden of Eden as described in Genesis. I am sure the now ruined mosaic tile pool was stunning in it's Heyday. We even stumbled upon a Firefighters memorial that my Firefighter Husband loved. But my absolute favorite was the Temple of Love. The Cantilevered temple is fabulous, with lots of hidden passages. And the view is just breathtaking. If in this general area I would highly recommend not missing this beauty of a place.

I suggest reading a little about this property before visiting. The gardens at their prime must have been jaw-dropping. The sections that are left are still unbelievable. Strap on your hiking shoes and really explore the park. If you can get down to "lion's gate" you will discover a cousin of the New York City Library lions. This park also connects to the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail which follows the hudson up from Central Park.

Before I visited these gardens, I read other reviews. Yes, the garden is small if you are comparing it to other public gardens, but this is an ongoing historic restoration. If you are a fan of gardens, ruins, history, you will enjoy these gardens.. to enhance your appreciation I highly recommend checking their website and taking their tour. It is free, but a donation is requested. That would cure the "it is a small garden" blues. The tour takes 90 minutes and you see the entire property and are privy to their restoration plans as well..

Enter into the walled garden and be amazed at the layout. .the mixture of stone ornament, water, shrubs and flowers combined with a view across the Hudson is stunning and not what you expect. Walk down to the lower viewing point too. Yes work continues to complete the rennovations but its worth a visit now
