Owner description: Whiteface may have made its name in winter, it has the highest vertical drop in the east, after all but it does summer pretty well too. The warmer months make Whiteface a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages, whether you're looking for an adrenaline rush or just an afternoon of beautiful views with your family. Take a hike along the Stag Brook Falls trail or Bear Den Mountain, play a round of Disc Golf and check out the area's most exhilarating, challenging Mountain Biking terrain. Or gather the family for an afternoon of taking it all in with a Scenic Cloudsplitter Gondola Ride to the summit of Little Whiteface. Drive the Whiteface Veteran's Memorial Highway to the summit, and lean into the Adirondack breeze as you marvel at the world below you. This well-known mountain offers exciting and scenic runs for skiers of all levels: Beginners do well on Easy Acres, which features its own ski school, novices and intermediates enjoy Little Whiteface, while experts head to the heart-pounding summit.

“Best of the East”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 17, 2013

We were somewhat hesitant about our booked ski experience in Lake Placid. The forecast called for high temperatures and for rain. High temperatures and little snow had been seen for over a week before. The base was 70 cm. - good but not great. In short - we had a great experience. The staff a the resort were most accomodating from the lift operators, to the restaurant people and the magicians on their grooming machines. Add a great mountain and you can't go wrong.

“Fantastic Skiing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

What a great ski experience. It is difficult, blue runs are more like the black diamond we are used to in Ontario. Not very crowded during the week but can get very windy - they shut down the gondola and all the lifts the last day we were there because of the wind. Apparently, that means it can also be icy, but when we were there the snow conditions were perfect. Great lodge at the bottom and also half way up the mountain. Can be really long lines to buy tickets on the weekend.

“Love Skiing at Whiteface!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

My parents took me to Whiteface when I was a teen and now I am taking my kids! We come from Huntsville, Ontario - 6.5 hour drive. It is great for all ages and levels. We buy our tickets through www.liftopia.com the night before or use the Coke day tickets on Wednesdays. It is really reasonable. Line ups have never been long for us on March Break or mid-week February. We stay at the Comfort Inn in Lake Placid for the 15 minute drive out.

“Fantastic Skiing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013

I think Suzuki267 has it all covered, but I do have to say that our 3 day weekend at Whiteface, and yes, we totally lucked out on the weather, was fantastic. We too have skied at the places that Suzuki267 mentioned, and spent the previous Sunday at Tremblant. After years of skiing there, Tremblant let us know that skiers are not the priority and that they don't want us back - Whiteface, where we hadn't skied since the late 80's, let us know that the skiers are their priority, not real estate & condos! From the people working in the parking lots, the skier drop off, the lifties, bag check ladies, and lodge staff, what a great experience. The hill grooming that was done each night (wasn't done at Tremblant) made for excellent skiing. And compared to other resorts we've been to, I am so impressed at how easy it was to get around the mountain, and how accessible each lift and hill was. The drive from Ottawa isn't that much further than the drive to Tremblant, and the skiing experience is far better. Great job Whiteface - we're looking forward to our next visit!
