The bed size was not what we were expecting. The mattress rested on an old metal box spring causing the bed to be too, too hard. The cleanliness of the was terrible. Many things in the room did not work and at the time no contact phone number was available. Considering the price of the room, we would have expected a much more complete breakfast without extra charges required. It is not a inn that we would choose to return to in the future.

I was unaware until a few days ago, when I discovered to my amazement, that, without the slightest notice beforehand, this mortifying negative review of our B & B was posted by a couple who stayed with us for two-nights back in April this year.

When they signed out, they identified their stay as “Delightful.” In our Guest Book, they wrote “Our stay was very nostalgic. We lived basically around the corner growing up. It was a great location. It provided us with an opportunity to revisit with many of our neighbors and to be away from the downtown hecticness. Thank you so much!

Their Trip Advisor review complaint of being “surprised” by the “bed size” is incomprehensible. Their online reservation form made no mention of any special need for a particular bed size and our website reservation page links to photos and descriptions of each guest room precisely to avoid anyone being so “surprised. The morning after their first night when the subject was first brought up, they declined our spontaneous offer to switch them to the adjacent, available room with a Queen size bed, with all their belongings moved into the new room for them as a courtesy. They chose,, however, to stay put -- persuasive evidence that it was not that uncomfortable and that they loved the Victorian Room, as, indeed, have all other guests lucky enough to have spent their time with us in that picturesque, romantic room.

Unfortunately, dust can be elusive in an 11-bedroom, 9-bath, over 90-year old house -- even one meticulously maintained on a daily basis. Our then relatively new, resident, full time Pakistani housekeeper may not have been up to snuff that weekend, but these guests found her most congenial and she did provide them her cell number, so they could freely call her, if needed. Before these guests departed, they warmly complimented her, as well as our GSA, for being “so caring.”

As to the complained-of below market, extra “breakfast charge,” our Guest Services Assistant who handled their reservation, reiterated, on their inquiry, what our reservation page stated, i.e., that a continental breakfast was included. As an accommodation, at their persistent request, our personal chef prepared special omelets for both of them, which they found “delicious,” with service that “was great.”

Unidentified in their Trip Advisor review is what items “did not work,” or that they were all of minor nature and promptly attended to, once brought to our attention -- a radio-alarm clock connection inadvertently detached from the outlet behind the end table near the bed. Flipping a breaker was another simple fix that got the electric turned on, when, inexplicably, it momentarily failed. Also, in an old house, one sometimes needs to get used to a “skeleton key” (an authentic original considered "charming" by most guests old enough to remember them as they were growing up) to open a sticky locked door. Breakdowns do happen even in the best hotels, and usually take much longer for their maintenance man to come and take care of them than the brief amount of time involved here!

Sadly, there are those who can never be pleased -- despite best efforts of the Management -- including an adjustment we spontaneously made for the complained-of unintended circumstances, by waiver of several posted extra charge items, as well as a proffered discounted return visit at our refurbished Bed and Breakfast, then already in progress (our Victorian Room now has a King-size bed!)

As our many glowing, five-star BedandBreakfast.com reviews from guests all over the world amply attest, for those who come to White Plains, NY looking for something more than the impersonal, institutional hotels dotting its congested mini-Metropolis downtown area, we offer the best VALUE, the one they are searching for -- at the same time, one that permits them to enjoy the benefit of a unique Historic Site in a quiet and beautiful residential setting, providing incomparable serenity and Old-World hospitality.

A perfect, quiet base for the visiting professional. As a surgical resident, I looked long and hard for apartments in the Westchester area and found nothing that compares to this beautiful mansion. It is conveniently near to the Westchester Medical Center, all of White Plains, and only a half-hour drive to Manhattan. Its location on the last piece of undeveloped land in White Plains makes it a historic treasure. Soundview should be first on the list of anyone looking to visit or work in Westchester County.

This is just an elegant stay in a beautiful mansion! The place permeates of the 1920's yet with the elegance of an Italian architectural influence. The caretakers are so sweet and lovely, they make you feel like you're right at home. Lawns are beautifully kept and gardens offer solitude and quiet walks, a peaceful spot in a city that is otherwise devoid thereof. Oh, and did I mention the banana nut bread? Yum!
