“Great Dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

The food is delicious and the service can not be beat. I had the pad thai and it was wonderful. There is valet parking available if you are driving and on the way out the owner gave us an orchid to thank us for coming! If you like Thai food, I definitely recommend Reka's!

“Nice staff, average food, pricey”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

The atmosphere in Reka's is dank. There are no windows and it sorta reminds you of a cellar. You have to walk down about three stone steps to enter the restaurant. Watch your step. The hostess and wait staff are very pleasant, and eager to make you feel welcome. The service is probably the best thing about Reka"s. The food was just okay. We ordered a variety of appetizers and the only one we really enjoyed was the satay. The others weren't that tasty. The entrees were okay, but each of us ( 3 ) have had better. The Thai iced tea was very good. It was the best part of my meal. Probably would not go back again. There are other Thai restaurants in Manhattan where we enjoy the food more.

“Delicious, delicate flavors”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

I have had the pleasure of many delicious meals at Reka's Thai in White Plains. The service is gracious. The food is wonderful. Fresh vegetables, subtle sauces, spiced to your liking. Reka or one of her sisters is always on hand visiting each table to greet patrons and chat about events, current and past. The Thai iced tea is rich, sweet and a lovely treat. I have never had a dish that did not please. I look forward to returning soon.

“If you've eaten real Thai food, then you won't recognize this...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2011

I am fortunate enough to visit Thailand fairly regularly and have eaten in some superb restaurants in that wonderful country. I love Thai food so much that I would seriously have to flip a coin to say whether Thai or Indian cuisine was my absolutel favorite.

However, although Reka's is owned by Thai Khun Reka, the food has been completely dumbed down to pander to local client expectations - right down to (American-style) soup and salad courses. In fact, Thais don't eat their meals in courses. Everything (including soup, if it's being served) comes out at the same time; everything is shared. But here, there is an American expectation that you order one dish and it comes on a plate delivered just to you.

Real Thai food is not ALL spicy - but much of it is; and some of it is fiercely spicy (particularly dishes which come from the North Eastern Isaan province). Unfortunately, at Reka's, there is virtually no contrast between the intensity of the dishes. Everything is just brought down to a single bland level. This is so sad. I find it difficult to believe that there aren't enough Americans who would be able to enjoy real Thai food to make a business successful - there are a few authentic Thai restaurants in Manhattan and they seem to thrive! But in Westchester/Western Connecticut, I have never had an authentic Thai food experience.

I can't help thinking that this sort of mediocre dumbed down American-shopping-mall-Thai would alienate more people than would be the case if the experience was more authentic. Sure, an authentic experience might polarize opinion - you will either love it or hate it. But those who love Thai food would still surely create a bigger business in the end.

Is there anything authentic at Reka's? Yes, if you ask Reka herself to get the kitchen to do something authentic! For a simple street lunch-for-one, ask Reka to rustle up a khao pad gai ... with a fried egg on top and a dish of nam pla prik. That's chicken fried rice, fried egg and chili infused fish sauce (which should be sprinkled sparingly over the top). They CAN do it - but you have to ask!

One final note: Don't ask for chopsticks - this is not Chinese food. Thais generally use a fork in the right hand and spoon in the left hand. The exceptions are, some rural areas where sticky rice is rolled in the right hand and used to gather up mouthfuls from the meat dish; and some Chinese Thais who will use chopsticks for noodle dishes.

“Decent Thai”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2011

Decent Thai Food. Went because we had a restraurant.com gift cert. Staff was friendly.

Not in love with the atmosphere. No windows so the plance feels kind of damp. There was a MASSIVE spider in the bathroom.

For the cost of the food, I would not go back.
