Thank you for your kind words about our staff, dining experience, and establishment as a whole. We love hearing feedback from our guests, and about their stay with us. Being on the grounds of The United States Military Academy, The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point offers guests luxury accommodations paired with historical importance. Our Room Dedication Program delivers an exclusive opportunity to stay in rooms honoring great West Point graduations, such as: Colonel Buzz Aldrin, Brigadier General Pete Dawkins, and General Martin Dempsey. These honorees donate memorabilia to showcase in their dedicated room, such as original awards, medals, and news paper articles. It was a pleasure to host you during your last two visits to the Academy, and we look forward to seeing you back in July.

I came here in mid-May 2014 with a friend of mine to get away from husbands and kids for a night. The price was fair. The location is amazing. You are right inside West Point Campus. Building is beautiful but rooms are old and nothing fancy at all. Walls are very thin too. Our room had 2 queens which barely fit in the room but beds were very cozy. You had to practically climb over one bed to get to the bathroom. The bathroom floor was not very clean and the bed headboard had an inch of dust on it. When I went to take a shower, the floor of shower was covered with paint chips that came from the ceiling above (Gross!)! Maybe the fan in BR wasn't working?? It didn't turn on. Staff is great though and the Seafood Buffet on Fri night should not be missed. The buffet was fabulous and well worth the money. When we checked out the next day I filled a cup with the gigantic paint chips and brought them with me to the front desk to show them. They took a little off our room rate which was appreciated but not the reason why I brought them down. I'm not sure if I would return or not. If I do, I will need to inspect the room before I unpack my bags. The grounds were just beautiful even in May.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point. May is a lovely time of year to visit The United States Military Academy located in the scenic Hudson Valley region. It also is a special time for the Firsties (seniors in the Academy) who are graduating and becoming Second Lieutenants in The United States Army. Being on the same grounds of the institution that educations and builds our Nation’s future leaders, The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point aims to uphold the same level of prestige and pride. It is extremely disappointing to hear when we fall short of providing our guests with an exceptional stay. We apologize for the paint chips being in the shower, and we thank you for bringing this issue to the attention of our Front Desk staff. This will ensure that the issue is repaired by our wonderful Maintenance Team. In recent years, our hotel has seen multimillion dollar renovations, which includes a complete renovation of our Executive Suites and upgrade of amenities. Hotel ownership has recently shared with our Executive Team that there are plans for additional renovations, upgrades, and improvements. From installing new carpet to interior designers remodeling our guests rooms, The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point is preparing to raise the bar yet again. We thank you for your praise about our friendly staff, and experience in our dining outlets. Our Executive Chef and Food and Beverage Director manage three unique outlets in addition to catering to multiple function spaces that host meetings and lovely weddings. Your valuable feedback will be presented to the respective departments, so the improvement process can begin. We would love to have you back at The Historic Thayer Hotel for another stay.

Once again stayed at the Thayer, this time for my husband's 60th reunion USMA. The situation of this Historic Inn of America is so beautiful, overlooking the Hudson and surrounded by the grounds of the Military Academy.
Room: we were spoiled with a total of seven pillows, but would have happily exchanged a few of them for a lamp on the second bedside table. The bathroom was very spacial and well appointed, except for a lack of handles near the bath and toilet for use by handicapped persons.
Food: Welcome buffet dinner offered three "stations" one with excellent roast beef, one with an Asian dish (questionably appetizing) and a third with Pasta with tomato sauce. No fresh vegetables at all. One late arrival was served a much better meal in the bar lounge. Other meals, sit down dinners, were of better quality but when we ordered a bottle of wine, we were not given glasses to pour it into till 20 minutes later.
This beautiful Hotel would be improved with a professional person to review the room decorations, bathroom amenities and meal choices. On the other hand, the bellmen were outstandingly helpful to everyone, but especially to those in our group who were in wheelchairs or otherwise handicapped.

Room Tip: rooms facing the river have a better view, but overlook the outdoor terrace where loud music plays f...

Thank you for your husband’s service to our Nation, and thank you for attending his 60th USMA Reunion at The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point. It is our genuine honor to host such events, and our staff takes great pride in coordinating the details, and executing those details with precision. Since our hotel is on the same grounds as the Academy, it serves as a wonderful location to honor USMA graduates as they make their way back to West Point to reunite with fellow Classmates. In recent years, The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point has switched from government to private ownership, and is now comprised of multiple West Point graduates from various Classes: 1964, 1967, 1974, 1986, and 1988. They, as well as all the staff at our hotel, take enormous pride in providing an exceptional experience, and always appreciate feedback from our guests. Feedback as such gives us the insight to what our guests are looking for to make their stay that much more enjoyable. Our Food and Beverage Team will be sure to receive your comments about the three serving stations, and the positive experience in our outlets. We also will be sure to let our Bellstaff know of your kind words. They always go out of their way to assist guests with luggage and valet parking. They are also well equipped with knowledge about our hotel, and the Academy. Again, it was an absolute pleasure to have you stay with us, and we hope to see you again next time you visit The United States Military Academy.

While competition is negligible (the Thayer is the only hotel on the grounds of the US Military Academy), it is still an amazing venue. From the view of the Hudson from the outdoor roof-top bar to the access to all that West Point has to offer, you cannot do better than the Historic Thayer Hotel! I stay here often and enjoy the staff -- the bellmen, the front desk staff, the staff of MacArthur's restaurant -- to name a few. If you get a chance to talk to a general named Andy, take advantage of it. A great place to stay.

Room Tip: Choose river side for a great view -- but be aware that the train may wake you in the night.

Trying to find hotel from opposite side of Academy was a challenge w/GPS and another car w/map and intuition! Need clearer signage. Valet area a "cluster". Young personnel friendly and trying hard! Waited way too long at front desk check in. Room nice 4th floor. Views outstanding. Train noise explained well upfront. In the old days they built hotels near the train so what would you expect? We planned on being part of lounge noise! Service was great, wedding meal food/décor outstanding (as was the wedding)! AOK for a one time step up and enjoy the experience.

Room Tip: River side, you will hear the trains but we did not find bothersome.

Thank you for staying at The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point for the wedding event, and for writing a review on TripAdvisor. Located on the grounds of the Academy, The Thayer Hotel is one of the first buildings that welcome visitors to West Point. Entering through Thayer Gate, our guests are able to conveniently valet park their car, and enter into the 88 year old building. We will also give your feedback to our Catering Team who work tirelessly to iron out the minute details with precious to make the bride and groom’s day flawless. Thank you again for your review, and we are confident will see you soon.

Wast treated like family by staff. the historic environment lends itself to educating visitors and in turn the education leads to conversations with other visitors. The stories flow!

Excellent Staff, Restaurant is tops in the area. You'll meet national leaders that also stay there, Generals & politicians.

Rooms are excellent, but please do believe that staff when they mention that the riverside has a frequent train going by. Ear plugs provided and a must!.

Still, a great place!

Thank you for staying at The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point, and for considering our restaurants as top in area. West Point is a wonderful, unique place where the future leaders of our Nation are trained, and the Academy graduates have many stories to share from their countless years of service. The Historic Thayer Hotel is the first impression people have of The United States Military Academy when they enter Thayer Gate, and it is our pleasure to welcome visitors and military personnel to the hallowed grounds. Our doors are always open, and there is friendly staff ready to welcome you. We hope to see you again in the future, and thank you again for your kind words about our property.

We attended a wedding at West Point this past weekend. The bride and groom reserved a block of rooms at the Thayer Hotel so we called and reserved our room several months in advance. We requested a king room. When we arrived at West Point we ended up entering at the Stony Lonesome Gate. If I have one tip it would be don't enter at this gate....make sure you enter at the Thayer Gate because we ended up driving around West Point in the dark for half an hour trying to find this huge hotel and we had a GPS with us! We finally found the hotel and registered at the desk. Valet was very quick and they quickly offered to take our bags to our room once it was assigned. The staff was very friendly and check in was very efficient. When we got our room assignment the front desk clerk said that we got the last King room that was available. (At least there was one left). We were told that it had a nice view of the Hudson River but that it may be a little loud because of the train that ran occasionally nearby. She then asked if we were light sleepers and then had us sign a paper that she had told us about the train noise. She also told us that the hotel provides ear plugs and sleepytime tea to help us sleep through the noise. Ok....at this point we were just happy to have located the hotel so we figured no big deal....at least we got a King Room and how loud could it be and it probably only ran a couple times. Neither of us are light sleepers so we figured we would fine. Within the first 15 minutes we were in the room, the train went by at least twice (and this continued through the night). By 9:00 PM we started noticing that there was some loud noise coming from outside the window. Lucky us....we not only had the train noise but we were right on top of the rooftop bar as well. We hadn't been warned about this directly...had only been told that the rooftop bar had opened for the season the day before we had arrived. We had no idea we were right on top of it! So we figured that the ear plugs were going to get some use!

The room itself was ok. Nothing really spectacular. Pretty much an average hotel room. When I read the website about luxury and 5 star accommodations I was expecting a little more to be honest. The bed was very comfortable and linens were nice. The decor was dark. The lighting was dark. There were very few outlets available for charging phones and tablets. As other reviewers have mentioned, WIFI is available for a $9.99 per day per DEVICE charge. This seems a little extreme given the cost of the rooms. We decided to do without the WIFI. 3G service was adequate. Bathroom was on the smaller size and tub seemed older. There was a Keurig in the bathroom which was a nice touch.

We had asked the bellman about the location of an ice machine. He told us to go left out of our room and it was near the elevator. We did this...no room with ice. I heard a buzzing coming from a door near our room. It was marked vending. It was vending but still no ice. After looking at a map of the hotel, there was no ice located on the second floor (which is where our room was - Room 215) it was on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors. You would think the bellman would have been aware of this but oh well...we just decided to do without the ice as well....put in our earplugs and head to bed.

We did sleep well with the earplugs in....they do block most of the noise (almost all the train noise and most of the bar noise). We had thought of ordering room service for either breakfast or lunch since the wedding was in the afternoon. However, we couldn't find any sort of menu or guest information anywhere in the room. So we chucked that idea and headed down to MacArther's for a buffet lunch. We stood at the hostess stand for several minutes till someone acknowledged us. Once they did we had wonderful service. Servers were very friendly and the food was quite good. It's not a cheap lunch but we felt that it was worth the cost.

We headed off to the wedding and reception. We were told when we checked in that the main dining room (MacArthurs) would not be available for dinner Saturday evening because of a private event. We ended up leaving the reception early and went to Patton's for a bite to eat. The food was excellent there. Service was good.

When we got back to our room we returned to find a new "sleep package" hanging from our door handle. (The evening before it was on the bed waiting for us). When we walked into the room we realized that the hotel was really hopping with wedding guests. The rooftop bar wasn't busy because it had rained but very loud guests were roaming the hotel inside and outside. They basically drowned out the train noise. Again we stuck the earplugs in and fell asleep with minimal problems.

The next morning I found our dirty washcloths from the day before laying in the bathtub. The rest of the room was very clean but just didn't expect this from a "luxury" hotel.

This hotel has so much potential....it is extremely historical, has a beautiful lobby, wonderful food, good service. It's just a combination of little things that make this just an average hotel if you take away the historical setting.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, make sure you request the side of the hotel away from the train and the...

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a detailed review of your stay, and providing us the necessary feedback to implement new protocol and make improvements. We apologize that various instances contributed to a less than satisfactory stay. We always aim to exceed our guests’ expectations, and are very disappointed when we fall short. Our Front Desk staff is trained to inform guests of the passing train, which blows its whistle in honor of the out of service dock, South Dock, and the activity at Zulu Time Rooftop Bar and Lounge. Our seasonal outlet, Zulu Time, offers guests a matchless experience by offering Army themed signature drink specials, such as The Double Tap, Beat Navy, and Army Mule, and hourly drawings where you could win various prizes. The Historic Thayer Hotel at West Point has a wonderful mix of history and modern conveniences. The Historic Thayer Hotel was home to the Iranian hostages when they returned to the United States. The former hostages spent the night, and dined in our now MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant. They signed the menu from the evening, and it can be found hanging on our walls today. Lastly, The Historic Thayer Hotel is always improving, and developing ways to bring better service to our guests. These in-depth, detailed forms of feedback are immensely valuable. We would love to have you back to our property for another stay, and show you the improvements that we’ve made.
