“Oh so comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

If you are visiting West Point, this is the place to stay. We were greeted by a warm and welcoming check-in staff. The hotel is old originating back to I believe 1926. Huge wood burning fireplace in lobby as well as original West Point lantern hanging in entrance are elements of charm that can't be seen just anywhere. Visit the 4th floor where every room is named for a West Point Graduate who has gone onto excel in various aspects of life. Our room was comfortable, loved the bed, but my 6'4 husband found it a bit short for him. Newly added sensor lighting is a nice touch. Remember hotel is old and our windows were a bit drafty. There are shades that help. It did not take away from our stay at all. If you are a picky sort and like modern updates, this place isn't for you. If you appreciate history, because the place is running rampant with it then it's must. We had two queen beds and a pull out sofa. We weren't in room much, but there was a nice tv, ample closet space and very clean bathroom. If you have kids there is a McDonald's just outside the security gates and a few places to eat that have a variety of selections for the pickiest of eaters. McDonald's is the only franchise you'll find in close proximity. Visitor center and West Point Museum all within very short walking distance. (Great Army merchandise for sale in the visitor center as well). I might add that while we did not eat in the restaurant, it looked lovely and menu if I didn't gave three kids with me would have been beyond my expectations. Bistro offers coffee, tea other assorted beverages and pastries in the am until 10:30 AM. You can dine at their little seating area or get it to go.

We attended a wedding reception at the Thayer and it was lovely. We stayed in a king room that over looked the Hudson, was clean and bright. The shades pulled tight and darkened it well. The hallway noise was loud at times but no other noise kept us awake. The whole campus is beautiful and steeped in history. I can't wait to go back in the fall and see the colors or the foliage.

Room Tip: The room over looking the Hudson was quiet. Our kids had a room over the front entrance and said th...

We appreciate your TripAdvisor review and are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We do hope you will come see us in the fall. Our rooftop bar and lounge, Zulu Time, will be open then and there’s no better place to take in the beautiful fall foliage than on our outdoor venues. We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Thayer Hotel while attending Plebe Parent Weekend. The stay was everything we hoped it would be - and then some. We stayed in the Col. Lee Van Arsdale room and were so impressed with both the letters and photos shared with us as well as the lovely appointments for our comfort. The king sized bed was unbelievably comfortable, the sitting chairs and table were convenient, and the bathroom was immaculate and spacious for an older hotel. The staff were helpful and always at the ready. We loved General Patton's Tavern at the end of the evening. Whether sitting there in casual clothes - or in our formal attire after the ball, we were comfortable and at home. Dinner in MacArthur's Restaurant was superb and something we look forward to doing again. All in all - a top-notch experience that we can't wait to do again!

It was a pleasure to stay in such a historic hotel! Yes it might be a little noisy but keep in mind how old the building is and it's a very small price to pay to bath in the history of the Thayer! Staff was excellent particularly the bell staff, I don't think they let me touch the front door during our entire stay! Front desk was excellent as well, they were very accommodating to our every request and need. Loved the tavern off the lobby with its light menu for a quick bite and a drink. We like the convenience of been on post so we can enjoy our time with our Cadet at West Point which is always at a preimium!

Room Tip: We enjoyed overlooking the river.

Thank you very much for your kind review. We will be sure to pass on the positive feedback to our hardworking staff. We strive to offer our valued guests nothing but five star service and even require each of our employees to take part in a Service Excellence program. With the Thayer Hotel’s location, right on the grounds of the United States Military Academy, there is no better place to stay when you want to be where all the cadet action is. We hope you will come visit us again soon!

I recently stayed at the Thayer hotel expecting a glamour experience and was extremely disappointed. Our room was small and we barely had a place to put our luggage. We could hear everything going on around us, including anyone who walked down the hall or flushed a toilet. The sheets on the bed had holes in them and were not properly fitted to the bed and fell off multiple times in the night. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

Thank you very much for your recent TripAdvisor review. We are sorry that you didn’t sleep well and apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay with us. We will be sure to pass on your comments and feedback to the pertinent departments. Our historic establishment was built in 1926 and offers guests old-world charm, however, we have taken steps in recent years to make sure there is an abundance of luxury in every room with additions like flat screen televisions, Keurig coffeemakers and iPod docking stations to name a few. We hope you will consider trying us again in the future.

We stayed at The Historic Thayer while attending the winter ball with our cadet. We were honored to stay in the room dedicated to Lt. Flipper. The room offered a lovely insight into Lt Flippers career including his pardon signed by President Bill Clinton. We were very comfortable we were in full ball attire and the staff was nice enough to take pictures of us in front of the lobby fireplace. The views of the Hudson are georgous and the building itself is a piece of our nations history. I was shocked that there were rooms available and at a price comprable to any other hotels in the area. From now on we will try the Thayer first, we always assumed it was already booked.

Thank you for your positive feedback on your recent review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. When a guest is looking for an elegant venue that is close to all the cadet action, there is not a more convenient location than the Thayer Hotel. We are proud to offer our guests an unbeatable location with amazing views of the Hudson River as well as sharing with them the history that has been made and continues to be made every day with programs like our Room Dedication Program. Our entire fourth floor is dedicated to distinguished graduates of West Point, like Lt. Flipper, who has made significant contributions to our nation and world. We are so pleased you enjoyed staying in that room and hope you will continue to stay with us and take advantage of the history we offer our valued guests.

The Thayer is a historic property with a stunning facade. The hotel is exceptionally well maintained. The staff is helpful and efficient. We stayed in a king room that was on the smaller side but nicely decorated. The view from the window woudl have been stunning in the spring/fall but was still impressive now in the winter. McArthur's Restaurant is a gem! We ate dinner there Saturday evening and had brunch there on Sunday. The food is delicious. The brunch is unbelievable. Plenty of options. We are going to return in the spring or early summer to enjoy the gorgeous surroundings and have another go at the brunch!
